Budgeted Salary: The expected pay range for this position is $34.04 - $43.27 per hour.

Reporting to the Director of Academic & Public Programs, the Community Learning and Engagement Associate develops and administers in-gallery learning and engagement programs for the Cantor Arts Center, including public and K-12 touring programs and other opportunities to foster participation and exchange for museum visitors. This position also supports community outreach and engagement, primarily for volunteers and members of the public that are not directly affiliated with Stanford University.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and produce in-gallery learning and engagement programs for the Cantor Arts Center, including public and K-12 touring programs and other opportunities to foster participation and exchange for museum visitors.
  • Provide recruitment, training, oversight, and direction to volunteers, student workers, and staff who facilitate tours and other in-gallery engagement programs at the Cantor. Ensure the size, diversity, and culture of groups that conduct these programs, including volunteers, students, and staff, meet the needs of the museum and its visitors. Identify external consultants or contractors to provide specific training and support as necessary.
  • Steward the volunteer Museum Engagement Guide program.
  • Lead community outreach to diverse local, regional and global communities for the museum–primarily to volunteers and visitors from outside of the campus community–in order to expand and deepen learning and engagement at the museum and via satellite and online programs.
  • Develop best practices for touring and other in-gallery engagement programs and act as an in-house resource for policies and procedures related to Community Learning and Engagement.
  • Schedule tours and curator talks within the collection galleries and temporary exhibitions.
  • Communicate regarding Community Learning and Engagement Programs and tour schedules with museum staff, including other Academic & Public Programs team members, Visitor Services, and Marketing staff.
  • Collaborate with the School and Family Programs Associate to develop, implement, and refine curriculum for K-12 programs.
  • Collaborate with the School and Family Programs Associate to develop a teacher professional development program for teachers from public and charter schools in the areas surrounding the Cantor Arts Center. Develop and deepen relationships and connections with teachers and these schools to identify needs and up-to-date best practices for K-12 learning and engagement programs at the Cantor Arts Center and in classrooms.
  • Support the Cantor Student Guide program in collaboration with the other Museum staff. Schedule student employees to provide tours through the Student Guide Program.
  • Collaborate with Anderson Collection staff to foster co-organized touring and community engagement programs.
  • Coordinate with Academic and Public Programs and other Cantor staff to develop evaluation methods for Community Learning and Engagement Programs.
  • Support the collection of analytics data on program and museum attendance, participation, and participant, volunteer, and museum staff feedback. Identify opportunities for growing attendance, expanding audiences, and fostering more meaningful participation and other forms of engagement based on evaluation of analytics data.
  • Evaluate existing policies and procedures, including guidelines, training programs, and organizational documents for program planning. Work with the Director of Academic & Public Programs to assess existing programs and shift staff, student, and volunteer resources or strategy for optimal development of new programs or program strategy as needed.
  • Serve as the point person for general inquiries related to Community Learning and Engagement programs.
  • Provide budget estimates and updates to the Director of Academic & Public Programs and allocate funds to achieve program goals within the range of the booked budget for specific programs.
  • May mentor student interns.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.

In addition to the below minimum qualifications, preferred qualifications include:

  • Art historical knowledge highly desirable; advanced degree preferred.

Core Duties:

  • Act on behalf of the supervisor, department manager, or chair in regards to establishing priorities and identifying and resolving problems that are administrative in nature.

  • Oversee and/or perform duties associated with scheduling, organizing, and operating complex conferences, seminars, and events, including arranging with vendors for services, overseeing the production and distribution of materials, administering logistics, and managing event within budget.

  • Compose and draft documents and correspondence for presentations, course handouts, grants, conferences, seminars, and reports. Perform substantial editing and fact checking. Create, maintain, modify, and/or ensure accuracy of content in various unit documents, displays, reports, brochures, social media, and/or websites.

  • Plan and schedule calendar(s) with limited consultation, resolve calendaring conflicts, and arrange travel in compliance with unit, university, and sponsor policies.

  • Create complex reports and spreadsheets which may utilize specialized software and systems.

  • Oversee and/or process a variety of complex financial transactions; produce, monitor, and reconcile budget statements; research, identify, and resolve discrepancies. May assist with capital or special equipment requests and/or vendor selection.

  • Coordinate and monitor routine maintenance services completion. Plan and coordinate office moves and/or minor renovation projects.

  • May lead staff or supervise day-to-day work of student and/or temporary workers, including scheduling, assigning, and prioritizing workloads, setting appropriate deadlines, reviewing work for quality and timeliness, and providing performance review input.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma and four years of administrative experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
