Position Summary CHP has an exciting opportunity for a Competency Restoration Program Psychiatrist to support our Jail-Based Competency Treatment (JBCT) and Early Access to Stabilization Services (EASS) programs. The ideal candidate has competency restoration treatment, correctional healthcare or acute behavioral health direct practice experience. The position is remote. Current unrestricted CA medical licensure and psychiatry board certification required. This role administratively reports to the Director of Forensic Mental Health Programs and clinically reports to the Chief Psychiatric Officer. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Treatment Provision for JBCT and EASS Programs Telepsychiatry for incarcerated persons facing felony charges who have been found incompetent to stand trial for mental health reasons and are court ordered to treatment Medication management of assigned patients Timely and thorough completion of competency focused documentation in psychiatric evaluations and progress notes: Aligned with Department of State Hospital standards With attention to specific symptoms correlated with the most recently evaluated competency barriers and how they are being targeted by prescribed medications Treatment team participation in assigned JBCT and EASS programs Come prepared to discuss medication management strategies and progress toward or barriers to competency for each assigned patient Note clinical observations of other treatment providers and forensic evaluators to inform care Coordination with the treatment team for parallel mental health and psychosocial needs of patient Coordination with jail medical for parallel medical needs of patient Facilitate patient treatment according to company policies and procedures Review dashboards, medication administration reports, and sick call lists as indicated Maintain positive working relationship with CA Department of State Hospital (DSH), Assigned Sheriff’s Offices (SO) and CHP corporate Coordinate with site-specific nursing and nursing leads as needed for shared patient care items (HSA, DON, charge nurse, etc.) Ensure provision of services align with DSH, CHP and Sherrif’s Office policies and procedures and medical practice standards Communicate any discrepancies to the Director of Forensic Mental Health Programs and/ or the Chief Psychiatric Officer Act as a collaborating physician for up to 3 Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners Promote positive program culture aligned with CHP values Minimum Requirements Current and unrestricted medical license in the state of California Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team Knowledge of best practices for the management of psychiatric disorders, especially serious mental illnesses and neurocognitive disorders Minimum 1 year of direct practice experience in correctional mental health or acute behavioral health setting Ability to obtain and maintain jail clearance Willingness to evaluate patients remotely via video visit platform Preferred Requirements Prior experience working in a competency restoration setting (jail-based, community or DSH) Board certification in psychiatry, active and current Prior experience working with sworn staff (aka correctional officers) Working knowledge of the legal framework for competency restoration in CA Working knowledge of CA involuntary psychotropic medication laws Current DEA registration Working knowledge of NCCHC and ACA standards Experience triaging and spearheading management of crises for acute psychiatric conditions Familiarity with CorEMR, TechCare, Sapphire, or other correctional EMR platforms Scope Clarification This is a remote role which supports CA-based JBCT and EASS programs across the organization. Compensation The pay range for this position is $200-230 per hour. Correctional Healthcare Partners is an equal opportunity employer.
