As our Compliance and Assurance Manager for retail energy supply, you will be a strong operational leader, providing clear direction, guidance, and constructive challenge to ensure Good Energy meets its industry obligations. You will own the compliance approach for key supply processes, lead cross-functional teams through regulatory change, and oversee robust assurance frameworks. Reporting to the Head of Information Governance, Risk & Compliance, this role requires a confident leader who can build strong relationships, influence senior operational teams, and drive real improvement across the business.

- Stakeholder management & operational influence: Lead, guide, and align operational teams and senior leaders, serving as the trusted expert on regulatory risk. Build strong working relationships across the business and ensure operational teams take ownership of compliance actions and process fixes.
- Regulatory leadership & subject matter expertise: Act as the main compliance and assurance lead for Retail Energy Supply, providing clear advice on energy supplier obligations across applicable industry codes, including the Standard Licence Conditions, Retail Energy Code, and Smart Energy Code.
- Team management & development: Provide line management, direction, and professional development support to direct reports, fostering a collaborative and risk-aware compliance culture.
- Regulatory reporting & submission management: Lead the successful completion of regulatory reporting submissions for Retail Energy Supply, managing senior stakeholders and ensuring all responses are accurate and supported by robust evidence.
- Incident management & risk escalation: Oversee the management of data breaches, compliance incidents, and regulatory risks across Retail Energy Supply, ensuring timely escalation, reporting, and completion of corrective actions.
- Regulatory change management: Work alongside the Regulatory Affairs team to assess upcoming regulatory change, determine the operational impact across Retail Energy Supply, and ensure senior leaders are prepared and accountable for delivery.
- High-risk process assurance: Own and mature assurance frameworks for high-risk Retail Energy Supply processes, including involuntary prepayment meters (PPM), debt, billing, customer vulnerability, and complaints.
- Quality assurance & insight sharing: Oversee quality assurance activity across relevant teams to ensure insights are captured, shared, and used to drive continuous improvement.
- Policy, process & control development: Lead the development and maintenance of policies, processes, risk controls, and training materials required to ensure sustained compliance across Retail Energy Supply.
- Control testing & audit delivery: Own the planning and delivery of control testing across Retail Energy Supply, ensuring key controls operate effectively, findings are tracked to closure, and audit observations are managed to a satisfactory resolution.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed, you will be a skilled leader and communicator who combines deep energy regulation knowledge with the ability to influence and collaborate with colleagues at all levels. You won't just understand the rules you will know how to make them work in day-to-day operations. You bring a proven track record of managing senior stakeholders (including Ofgem), leading teams, and getting things done across different departments

- Stakeholder Management & Influence: Proven ability to build strong working relationships, challenge senior leaders constructively, and get buy-in and action from operational teams across the business.
- Team & Operational Leadership: Strong line management experience, with the ability to set clear direction, mentor colleagues, and build a proactive, risk-aware culture in everyday operations.
- Energy Industry Regulatory Knowledge: Solid understanding of supply licence conditions, relevant law, and industry code agreements governing the supply of energy, with a proven track record of applying these requirements across retail energy operations.
- External Regulatory Experience: Previous experience working within the energy industry, including direct communication with external regulators such as Ofgem.
- Assurance & Risk Frameworks: Experience leading assurance activity within a Three Lines of Defence model and providing senior-level insight on risk management effectiveness.
- Audit & Regulatory Change Delivery: Proven ability to manage complex regulatory change, project-manage assurance programmes, and engage with internal and external auditors to drive agreed actions through to closure.
- Policy & Workflow Documentation: Experience in writing and implementing policies, alongside the ability to interpret technical concepts and turn them into clear, operational working documents.
- Third-Party Management: Ability to manage third parties and associated contracts effectively.
- Attention to Detail: Demonstrable attention to detail alongside clear verbal and written communication skills.
Desirables:
- Specific Regulatory & Code Focus: Practical experience engaging with industry parties such as the Retail Energy Code (REC), Smart Energy Code (SEC), across schemes including Warm Home Discount (WHD) and Feed In Tariff (FIT) as well as compliance initiatives such as involuntary prepayment meters.

Our office is based in Chippenham, Wiltshire. For this role, we're looking for candidates who can come in to our Chippenham office once a month to align with our teams Anchor days.
We offer both formal and informal flexible working options. Full-time hours are 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday.
