Who We Are & What You’ll Do

BUILDING COMMUNITY: Denver Community Planning and Development (CPD) is responsible for visionary city planning and ensuring safe, responsible, sustainable building. CPD regulates planning, zoning, development and maintenance of private property in Denver. We're working hard to make Denver a great place to live, work and play! Visit DenverGov.org/CPD.

Our team is currently looking to hire two part‑time Customer Support Assistants to join our team! The Universal Recycling and Composting Ordinance (URCO) Team supports Community Planning and Development’s efforts to implement Denver’s new citywide requirements for construction and demolition (C&D) waste diversion. This team works within CPD’s plan review and inspections work group and plays a key role in helping applicants understand and navigate the documentation and processes associated with URCO. As an URCO Customer Support Assistant, you will help customers submit required materials, provide guidance on established procedures, and support the administrative workflow that ensures accurate tracking and processing of waste‑diversion plans and compliance documentation.

Specifically, as an URCO Customer Support Assistant, you will:

  • Learn and consistently apply the ordinances and rules and regulations to applicable construction and demolition projects throughout Denver.
  • Review and approve or deny requests for reduced or modified waste diversion, as well as requests for reductions or exemptions to the performance security deposit.
  • Use the Green Halo platform to verify diversion documentation.
  • Confirm ordinance compliance and determine refund amounts.
  • Provide excellent customer service as a primary point of contact for internal and external customers, offering written and verbal technical assistance.
  • Monitor and respond to inquiries from a shared email inbox related to URCO construction and demolition projects.
  • Visit job sites to educate and support the program and projects, and to confirm waste diversion and segregation of recyclable materials.
  • Verify recycling facility diversion rate compliance, expansion, and mixed‑materials opportunities.
  • Document detailed questions, concerns, and modification requests for external reporting.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations for future revisions to the ordinances or rules.
  • Organize data regarding ordinance compliance for presentations and council and mayoral briefings, and perform other duties as assigned, such as developing or updating training materials and coordinating with other city staff.

What You’ll Bring

We value diversity of ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, sexual identity, gender, religion, language, ability, and experience and exemplify this through the makeup of our team at all levels. You'll be right at home here if you cultivate strong relationships and push yourself, your work, the people around you and Denver to the next level.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Familiarity with building design, construction practices, or demolition and waste‑diversion terminology.
  • Ability to learn and apply regulatory criteria and program procedures, and to make independent decisions with minimal oversight.
  • Strong math skills to support the verification of project information and basic systems calculations.
  • Robust written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor information to a wide range of customers, including homeowners and contractors.
  • Comfort navigating online permitting systems and learning third‑party platforms such as Green Halo.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide responsive, high‑quality customer service to diverse internal and external stakeholders.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirements: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of full performance office support/clerical work (type and level of an Administrative Support Assistant III).
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.
  • License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

Application Deadline

This position is expected to stay open until Sunday, October 25, 2026. Please submit your application as soon as possible and no later than 10/25/26 at 11:59 p.m. to ensure consideration.
