Construction Technician - Manhole Inspection Travel Team

We are seeking Construction Technicians to support underground utility inspection and field survey operations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. In this role, you will perform electric manhole inspections, utility asset documentation, underground cable identification, and field data collection that directly supports the planning, design, and operation of critical utility infrastructure.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with backgrounds in construction, utilities, telecommunications, underground infrastructure, field inspections, surveying, excavation, maintenance, military service, or other technical field environments. Prior electric manhole inspection experience is not required. We provide training for motivated individuals who bring a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to safety.
This position requires 100% travel throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Ohio. Company-paid travel accommodations, hotel stays, per diem (where applicable), and a comprehensive benefits package are provided.
What You'll Do
- Perform underground utility surveys and electric manhole inspections in accordance with client and company standards.
- Locate and identify underground utility assets using maps, field records, and existing infrastructure documentation.
- Trace and document secondary cable systems, transformers, conduits, and related utility equipment.
- Collect accurate field data using tablets, mobile applications, GPS technology, and other digital tools.
- Capture photographs and visual documentation of manholes, conduits, cables, transformers, and surrounding infrastructure.
- Create sketches, diagrams, and field drawings that support design and engineering activities.
- Document cable sizes, equipment details, duct bank configurations, and field conditions.
- Conduct field quality reviews to verify data accuracy and completeness.
- Review construction drawings, utility maps, and technical documentation to support project requirements.
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, permit coordination, and field logistics.
- Maintain detailed records of project activities, inspection findings, and field observations.
- Collaborate with Construction Supervisors, Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers to identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to travel extensively and work away from home during the work week.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and field environments.
- Experience in construction, utilities, telecommunications, surveying, underground infrastructure, inspection services, maintenance, or other technical field operations preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, drawings, blueprints, or technical documents.
- Comfortable learning and using tablets, mobile applications, and digital data collection systems.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a project team.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10 Certification
- Confined Space Entry Certification
- Utility, underground construction, telecommunications, or infrastructure inspection experience
- Experience working around electric distribution systems, manholes, vaults, conduit systems, or underground utilities
- GPS, GIS, surveying, or digital field data collection experience
- Knowledge of utility safety practices and work zone protection
Physical Requirements
- Frequently walk, climb, bend, kneel, and work in physically demanding field environments.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in confined spaces when properly trained and authorized.
- Ability to traverse uneven terrain and active construction sites.
- Ability to travel extensively and stay overnight as required.

The base salary for this position ranges from $30.00 - 35.00 hourly. The specific amount within this range will be influenced by the work location and various factors, such as internal equity, professional skills, work experience, and pertinent education or training.
