CONSULTANCY: Agrometeorologist – Adaptation of Online Course for Hispanophone Learners (English to Spanish) SSA-2026-SS-SSCD-3

Background

This consultancy supports the adaptation to local contexts of an online agrometeorology course from English into Spanish. Given the specialized nature of the subject matter, the work requires both strong language proficiency and domain expertise in agrometeorology, climate services, and early warning to ensure accuracy and contextual relevance for Hispanophone learners.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Adapt all online course materials (video scripts, slides, readings, quizzes) from English to Spanish for local contexts, ensuring accurate agrometeorological terminology.
• Adapt content linguistically and culturally for Hispanophone learners while preserving technical meaning.
• Deliver final quality-checked adapted content ready for upload to the online learning platform.

Mains Deliverables

• Inception deliverable: A detailed workplan outlining the adaptation approach and methodology.
• First adapted Spanish version of the entire course, adapted to local contexts, technically accurate, scientifically sound, and learner-friendly, with consistent terminology across all modules, delivered for integration by the instructional designer.
• Reviewed final course: A review and validation of the integrated course produced by the instructional designer, confirming linguistic accuracy, terminology consistency, and scientific soundness, ready for upload to the online learning platform.

Required Skills and Experience

Education: Advanced university degree in Agrometeorology, Meteorology, Climate Science, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related field.

Experience: At least 3–5 years of professional experience in agrometeorology, climate services, agricultural extension, or climate risk management. Demonstrated experience in technical adaptation to local contexts (English-Spanish) or multilingual content adaptation of scientific or training materials.

Other Requirements: Proven knowledge of agrometeorology, climate services, early warning systems, and/or climate information for agriculture. Familiarity with terminology standards used by WMO, FAO, CGIAR, and development partners.

Languages: Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and excellent command of English (written and spoken).

Salary and Allowances: Payband C (individual with extensive relevant professional experience requiring specialized or technical knowledge and skills) or D (highly specialized individuals with extensive relevant experience and the highest level of expertise in the corresponding area of work). Selected category will depend on qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Duration: 10 days over a period of 5 months
