Consultant, Product Architect
NationwideThis role will work a hybrid schedule coming into the Columbus, Ohio office 2 days per week.
This role resides within the Enterprise Data Architecture team under Technology Enterprise Solutions (TES) and operates in the enterprise shared space, providing a unique opportunity to influence direction and shape decisions across a broad range of business and technology domains. Through its impact on enterprise-wide architecture, platforms, standards, and strategic investments, this role helps define how Nationwide advances its data, analytics, and technology capabilities at scale.
Demonstrated experience as a hands-on architect, with deep expertise in product architecture across business intelligence, analytics, data platforms—including Snowflake and Databricks—and related enterprise technology domains.
Strong understanding of analytical data architecture, including data warehouses, lakehouses, curated data products, and business intelligence consumption patterns.
Demonstrated knowledge of cloud architecture and integration patterns across AWS and Azure, including secure connectivity, identity and access management, platform integration, scalability, resilience, and operational governance.
Experience architecting and guiding enterprise BI platforms such as Power BI and Tableau, including self-service analytics, governed reporting, semantic modeling, data-access patterns, platform modernization, and tool rationalization.
Awareness of emerging capabilities, including agentic AI, knowledge graphs, and other technologies shaping enterprise data and analytics.
Ability to evaluate technology capabilities and translate business needs into fit-for-purpose platform guidance, reference architectures, standards, guardrails, and target-state roadmaps.
Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to executives, engineers, product teams, business partners, cybersecurity, risk, and governance stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into execution by producing actionable architecture decisions, solution designs, standards, implementation plans, migration strategies, and delivery roadmaps.
Ability to lead cross-functional collaboration, resolve architectural dependencies, and guide initiatives from concept and proof of concept through implementation, adoption, and operationalization.
Knowledge of data governance principles, security best practices, and emerging AI tools relevant to enterprise data and analytics.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to distill complex architectural concepts into clear, concise, and actionable guidance for diverse audiences.
Experience delivering technology solutions in fast-paced, Agile environments while balancing business priorities, technical quality, and delivery timelines.
Demonstrated thought leadership, with the ability to influence stakeholders, build alignment, and lead continuous improvement across architecture, platforms, and delivery practices.
Ability to develop application and platform roadmaps, identify and mitigate technology risks, and collaborate effectively with other key roles and stakeholders.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Develops and maintains systems architecture for a product domain, business function, or technology portfolio, ensuring that the product meets functional and non-functional requirements.
Key contributor on strategies, blueprints, and roadmaps for a given product/application/technology area focused on technical directions like Cloud First. Ensure product/application roadmaps are aligned with solution and enterprise roadmaps with the appropriate guardrails.
Responsible for applying secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
Identifies technology risk, technical currency gaps, and technical debt when planning for new solutions, technology upgrades, and maintenance of product/application platforms.
Crafts moderate to complex build patterns and accelerators, establishes building code standards, and ensures compliance with architecture standards.
Drives technical quality by conducting or participating in architecture, design and code reviews, capacity planning, modeling and testing.
Supports the development of technical talent by providing feedback, suggestions, and creating visibility to other leaders.
Assists in mentoring teams involved in a product/application development when unfamiliar, new technologies or techniques are introduced.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Director or AVP, Technology Chief Architect.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or a related field are preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: Technology certifications or designation are not required but encouraged.
Experience: Eight or more years of experience in a technology domain. Demonstrated expertise across multiple architectural domains and technologies, with awareness of emerging trends. Cloud experience preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Good communication and facilitation skills. Ability to make decisions and recommendations on technology strategies while considering various options and business needs. Aptitude to influence, build relationships, negotiate and set priorities needed. Strong executive presence. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.
Other criteria, including leadership or technical skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
