Consultant / Virtualization Engineer – Hyper-V & Nutanix

As a Consultant within our Digital Infrastructure Practice, you will be at the forefront of driving digital transformation initiatives for our clients Alongside experts in infrastructure technologies, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions that enhance operational efficiency, scalability, and security. From designing robust architectures to implementing cutting-edge technologies, you will play a critical role in helping our clients harness the power of digital infrastructure to achieve their business objectives.
Essential Functions:
- Engage with clients to understand their business goals, infrastructure challenges, and technology requirements.
- Translate client requirements into actionable recommendations and solution proposals, aligning with best practices and industry standards.
- Collaborate with solution architects and technical leads to design scalable, resilient, and cost-effective infrastructure solutions.
- Support the implementation and deployment of digital infrastructure solutions, working closely with engineering teams and third-party vendors.
- Configure and deploy cloud environments, virtual networks, and infrastructure components according to design specifications.
- Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and validation to ensure solution functionality, performance, and security.
- Assist project managers in planning, scheduling, and tracking project activities, milestones, and deliverables.
Microsoft Hyper-V Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, administer, and maintain Microsoft Hyper-V environments.
- Configure and manage Windows Failover Clustering for high availability.
- Administer Hyper-V Replica and disaster recovery solutions.
- Create, configure, and maintain virtual machines, virtual switches, and storage.
- Monitor Hyper-V host performance, resource utilization, and capacity planning.
- Perform Hyper-V host upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management.
- Troubleshoot Hyper-V, Windows Server, clustering, and virtualization-related issues.
- Support integration with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and enterprise networking.
- Automate Hyper-V administration using PowerShell.
- Maintain documentation for Hyper-V infrastructure and operational procedures.
Hyper-V Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience administering Microsoft Hyper-V environments.
- Strong experience with:
- Microsoft Hyper-V, both Core and GUI installations
- Windows Server
- Windows Failover Clustering
- Hyper-V Replica
- PowerShell scripting
- System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)
- Windows Admin Center
- Experience with enterprise storage technologies supporting Hyper-V.
- Experience implementing backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Strong understanding of Windows networking and virtualization best practices.
Nutanix Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and administer Nutanix clusters utilizing AHV.
- Manage Prism Central and Prism Element environments.
- Configure and maintain Nutanix storage, compute, and networking resources.
- Monitor cluster health, performance, and capacity using Nutanix tools.
- Perform lifecycle management (LCM), firmware updates, and cluster upgrades.
- Troubleshoot Nutanix infrastructure, AHV, storage, and networking issues.
- Implement high availability, disaster recovery, and data protection solutions.
- Optimize workloads and resource utilization across Nutanix clusters.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams on virtualization, networking, and storage initiatives.
- Maintain technical documentation and operational standards.
Nutanix Required Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience administering Nutanix infrastructure.
- Strong experience with:
- Nutanix AHV
- Prism Central
- Prism Element
- Nutanix Lifecycle Manager (LCM)
- Experience with Nutanix storage and distributed architecture.
- Experience performing Nutanix cluster upgrades and expansion.
- Understanding of Nutanix networking, virtual networking, and security.
- Experience with disaster recovery and backup solutions supporting Nutanix.
Desired Shared Skills and Experience
- Experience with enterprise virtualization technologies.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, DNS, and DHCP.
- Experience with enterprise backup solutions (Veeam, Rubrik, Commvault, etc.).
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Experience with infrastructure monitoring tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to automate repetitive tasks using PowerShell or similar scripting languages.
- Experience working in highly available, mission-critical environments.
- Ability to participate in after-hours maintenance and on-call support.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with both Microsoft Hyper-V and Nutanix AHV.
- Experience migrating workloads between virtualization platforms.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure or hybrid cloud solutions.
- Familiarity with VMware vSphere environments and migration strategies.
- Infrastructure as Code and automation experience.
- Industry certifications such as: Nutanix Certified Professional (NCP)
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
