JOB SUMMARY
NetApp is building a Value Engineering capability, and we’re looking for experienced practitioners to help us build it. As a Consulting Value Engineering Architect, you’ll sit within our Modernization Solution Architecture organization and support some of NetApp’s largest and most strategic customers. This is an overlay role designed to complement our Client Executives and Solutions Engineers by bringing a dedicated business and financial value lens to the customer conversation.
This is not a traditional Solutions Engineering or generalist Solution Architecture role. We’re looking for someone who has done Value Engineering before, someone who knows how to uncover business priorities, quantify the financial impact of technology decisions, build credible TCO and ROI models, develop executive-level business cases, and turn technical investments into measurable business outcomes. You’ll engage throughout the customer lifecycle, from early discovery and qualification through investment justification, implementation, renewal, and expansion. Just as importantly, you’ll help us build the playbook: establishing the frameworks, tools, processes, and field enablement that will turn Value Engineering into a scalable motion across NetApp.
If you love understanding the context behind a customer’s problem, translating that problem into measurable value, and telling that story in a boardroom, this is the kind of role we built for you.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead value discovery with strategic customers, engaging early in the sales cycle to understand business initiatives, pain points, financial drivers, desired outcomes, decision criteria, and the cost of maintaining the status quo.
- Build compelling, defensible business cases using TCO, ROI, NPV, cash-flow, lifecycle, risk, and cost-of-inaction analyses to quantify the financial impact of technology investments and modernization strategies.
- Translate technology into business outcomes, partnering with Client Executives, Solutions Engineers, and Solution Architects to connect technical recommendations to the metrics and priorities that matter to executives, finance, procurement, and other business stakeholders.
- Own the value story across the customer lifecycle, establishing measurable outcomes during the pre-sales process and returning post-sale to validate value realization, strengthen executive champions, support renewals, and identify opportunities to protect and expand the relationship.
- Influence complex strategic sales motions by developing and presenting executive- and board-level value narratives that move conversations beyond features and price toward business impact, including multi-year, subscription, consumption, and as-a-service models such as NetApp Keystone.
- Help build NetApp’s Value Engineering practice, creating repeatable methodologies, financial models, tools, templates, customer artifacts, and enablement that improve proposal conversion, customer retention, growth, and adoption of value-led selling across the field.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years of relevant experience, including direct professional experience in Value Engineering, Business Value Consulting, Value Realization, Value Advisory, or a closely related function supporting complex enterprise technology sales.
- Experience supporting highly strategic, global enterprise accounts with complex buying organizations and significant technology investments.
- Demonstrated experience independently building and presenting sophisticated TCO, ROI, NPV, cash-flow, lifecycle, and financial justification models used to influence customer investment decisions.
- Proven ability to lead executive-level value discovery and translate customer business initiatives, pain points, and desired outcomes into quantifiable financial and operational metrics.
- Experience supporting large, complex enterprise sales cycles and partnering across Sales, Solutions Engineering, Solution Architecture, Finance, Customer Success, and other cross-functional teams.
- Exceptional executive communication and presentation skills, with the ability to confidently facilitate business-value conversations with senior leaders including CIOs, CFOs, procurement executives, and other decision-makers.
- Experience creating or scaling Value Engineering methodologies, frameworks, tools, or go-to-market motions rather than simply consuming an established process.
- Strong business and financial acumen combined with enough technical fluency to understand infrastructure, cloud, data, and architectural concepts and translate them into business impact.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Background in enterprise infrastructure, cloud, data management, storage, or modernization solutions.
- Experience with subscription, consumption, or as-a-service business models and developing value frameworks for recurring-revenue offerings.
- Experience measuring post-sale value realization and connecting realized outcomes to renewals, retention, expansion, and customer advocacy.
- Experience building a Value Engineering capability, launching a new practice, or helping an organization transition toward a more value-led selling motion.
- MBA, advanced Finance degree, or related advanced education.
