Job Summary The Content Manager is responsible for planning, developing, editing, and distributing high-quality content that supports the Howley College of Engineering and Computing's communications, reputation-building, faculty visibility, research promotion, advancement, and engagement goals. Reporting to the Director, Strategic Communications and Content, the Content Manager serves as the College's primary writer and editor across digital, print, and multimedia channels. Working with faculty, students, alumni, administrators, and researchers, this position develops compelling stories that highlight the College's achievements, innovation, impact, and people. The Content Manager supports a centralized shared-services model serving the College's schools, departments, research centers, and administrative units. Essential Functions Content Development & Writing: Research, write, edit, and publish articles, feature stories, newsletters, reports, web content, and marketing materials. Interview faculty, students, alumni, researchers, and industry partners. Translate technical and academic subject matter into content appropriate for diverse audiences. Develop content supporting research visibility, faculty recognition, community engagement, advancement, and reputation-building initiatives. Faculty & Research Story Development: Identify research, innovation, and faculty achievement stories. Assist the Director, Strategic Communications and Content, with development of thought leadership content. Collaborate with faculty to communicate research impact and outcomes to a diverse group of audiences. Support media relations and strategic communications initiatives. Editorial Management: Maintain content calendars and manage editorial workflows. Review and edit content submitted by contributors. In collaboration with University Marketing & Communications, ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with University brand standards. Coordinate approvals and digital and print publication schedules. Digital Content Support: Develop web content and update digital communications assets. Support newsletter and email communications. Coordinate with marketing technology staff to optimize content performance and search visibility. Digital Content Support: Develop web content and update digital communications assets. Required Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, Technical Writing, or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. ( Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.) Minimum of 4 to 6 years of experience as a professional writer, editor, and content creator. STEM Storytelling: Demonstrated ability to interview researchers, scientists, or engineers and translate complex technical topics into clear, compelling narratives for external audiences. Multi-Channel Delivery: Experience writing and editing across a diverse portfolio, including digital feature stories, newsletters, web copy, magazines, and social media content. Editorial Knowledge: Advanced editing skills with strict adherence to professional and university style guides. Project Management: Strong organizational skills to manage a high volume of content deadlines within a shared-services or agency-style environment. Collaboration: Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven track record of interviewing and building rapport with diverse groups, including faculty, alumni, students, and senior administrators. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience writing within a university setting, research institution, or agency servicing higher education clients. Digital Infrastructure Knowledge: Experience working within Content Management Systems and managing enterprise email marketing platforms. Advancement Support: Experience writing persuasive content for institutional advancement, fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship, or alumni relations. Location University City - Philadelphia, PA Additional Information This position is classified as Exempt, grade K . Compensation for this grade ranges from $60,240.00 - $90,350.00. Please note that the offered rate for this position will vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
