For every child, the right to Advocacy.

How can you make a difference?

More than five years into the Myanmar crisis, the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate. In 2026, some 4.9 million children — nearly one-third of Myanmar’s child population — are in need of humanitarian assistance, and 16.2 million people require urgent support.

UNICEF Myanmar operates across a complex, rapidly evolving emergency, responding to overlapping crises including armed conflict, mass displacement, earthquakes, cyclones, and monsoon floods.

As UNICEF Myanmar’s field presence and funding base continue to expand, so does the need for a consistent supply of high-quality, platform-ready content that documents programme impact and tells the stories of children and families the organisation serves.

Donors and partners now require compelling photographs and human-interest stories that demonstrate how their contributions are making a tangible difference for children across the country.

UNICEF Myanmar aims to engage two separate individual consultants under this assignment. Each consultant will be deployed on an on-demand basis, either independently or in parallel depending on programme needs, geographic coverage, urgency and the specific deliverables required

Each consultant will be responsible for delivering the agreed content outputs assigned through a separate pre-mission brief, including photography, captions, consent documentation and any additional editorial deliverables as required, in coordination with the UNICEF Advocacy & Communications section.

Scope of Work:

UNICEF Myanmar is recruiting two individual consultants for content production services, with a focus on professional photography and related editorial support.

The objective is to ensure flexible, on-demand capacity to document programme impact and produce high-quality, platform-ready content for advocacy, donor visibility, partnerships and public communication.

Photography Services:

Under the photography service, the consultant will capture and deliver a curated selection of edited, high-resolution photographs suitable for both print and digital platforms.

This includes ensuring all images feature embedded metadata, comprehensive English captions detailing the location and date, and signed consent forms for all subjects.

Editorial Services:

Where required by the assignment brief, the consultant will write engaging human-interest stories of approximately 800 to 1,000 words in English.

These narratives must incorporate direct quotes from field subjects.

The writing process will include incorporating at least one round of revisions based on supervisor feedback.

Deployment and Deliverables:

Each deployment will be guided by a separate pre-mission brief agreed before travel or assignment start.

The brief will confirm the consultant to be deployed, location, programme area, communication objective, required outputs, shot list or interview focus, submission deadlines and any specific donor or platform requirements.

Assignments may include photography with captions and consent documentation, or photography with additional editorial outputs where needed.

The consultant will be deployed on an on-demand basis, up to a total of 70 working days in the contract year, to respond to shifting communication needs arising from multiple climate-related and man-made emergencies, including conflict, displacement, earthquakes, cyclones, floods and other sudden-onset or protracted crises.

Finalised photographs, captions, consent documentation and written stories must be submitted within the agreed post-production deadlines following field travel.

Estimated Post-Production Ratio:

The following ratios are indicative guides for planning and budgeting purposes. Actual days will be agreed per each assignment.

General Responsibilities of the Consultant:

• Consultants will use their own professional equipment (camera, laptop, editing software, internet access).

• All content must comply with UNICEF’s ethical and visual guidelines, including child safeguarding standards. UNICEF staff will be present during all interactions with children.

• Signed consent forms must be obtained for all subjects. For children under 18, consent must be obtained from a parent or legal guardian prior to any photography, filming, or interview.

• UNICEF holds perpetual world rights over all content produced under this consultancy. No personal branding, logo, or watermark may appear on final content.

• Consultants must obtain UNDSS security clearance prior to any official field travel and use pre-approved accommodation.

• Consultants are not entitled to fees for travel days; service fees apply only for days services are actively rendered.

Responsibilities of UNICEF:

• UNICEF will provide a pre-mission assignment brief for each deployment, specifying the programme area, location, required deliverables, target platforms, and submission deadlines.

• UNICEF will orient the consultant on UNICEF’s branding guidelines, visual and editorial standards, and child safeguarding protocols prior to the first assignment

• UNICEF will arrange and cover the cost of field travel and DSA in accordance with UNICEF travel policies.

Payment is made upon submission of actuals and supervisor approval.
