Program Summary The Finance team manages all aspects of the financial operations in the organization, ensuring IRCO’s financial health, transparency, and sustainability. The team is comprised of three areas: Accounting, Budgets, and Awards. Core functions of the team include recording financial transactions, creating financial reports for both funders and managers, and ensuring compliance with public and nonpublic funding sources. With an annual budget of more than $60 million, drawn from a complex array of funding streams and a workforce and client base from around the world, we are a non-profit leader with a long stable history of financial accountability and excellence. Position Summary The Controller provides vital financial and supervisory leadership within IRCO’s Administration program, managing the volume for an established $60M+ non-profit organization. This role exercises high work independence to supervise six direct reports across the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Reconciliation teams, cultivating a supportive culture of accountability. Key responsibilities include executing the monthly/annual close, implementing strong internal controls, managing annual audits, and maintaining GAAP compliance using ABILA MIP. The successful Controller will bring 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, exceptional risk-assessment and process-design skills, and a commitment to building equitable stakeholder relationships across multibackground communities. Essential Functions Partner with Budgets Manager and Awards Manager on strategic initiatives within the finance team Implement and maintain strong internal controls, policies and procedures to safeguard assets and ensure operational efficiency Financial close process Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual financial close process Ensure accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and nonprofit accounting standards Supervision of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Reconciliation teams Supervise and mentor six direct reports across the three teams Foster a culture of learning, support and accountability Coordinate annual audit and tax filings Prepare core audit schedules and tax return worksheets Participate in communication with auditors Secondary Functions Attend recurring all-staff meetings, team meetings and other requested meetings Participate in policy work with strategic plan workgroup on request Pursuing relevant training in the field of accounting Support IRCO’s strategic goals and objectives. Requirements Education & Experience MINIMUM JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Accounting, Business or similar combination of education and experience. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred 7-10 years’ experience in progressively challenging accounting positions, preferably in a not-for-profit organization Knowledge of the principles and practices of GAAP accounting Proficiency in ABILA MIP preferred; Microsoft Office Suite required. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Intercultural awareness: demonstrated skill in understanding variations in community norms Ability to cultivate and develop universal access and equitable working relationships with stakeholders, staff, and community members. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. Physical, Mental, & Environmental Requirements Hybrid setting job Physical: Position requires little physical effort such as lifting, carrying, or constant movement, but does allow for movement needed to complete work tasks. Mental: There is a regular need for assessment of risks, analysis of options, and decisions without complete information. Environment: This level has a work environment that is well protected, with virtually no hazards or obstacles. There is very little element of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are stable, usually well managed, and very comfortable. Schedule: The work schedule is stable and does not fluctuate. Supervisory Responsibilities Responsible for a full range of supervisory responsibilities, including providing daily work direction, authority to hire, discipline and terminate employees, make pay adjustments, communicate performance appraisals, and approve absences.
