ST&S Finance & Risk provides financial stewardship, reporting, control and risk support to Supply, Trading & Shipping. The Controllership team is part of Core Finance & Risk and delivers controlled close and reporting activities as a team supporting the broader ST&S organization, with opportunities to work across businesses and portfolios. The role reports to the Controllership Lead and works across co-located, business and technology centre, and service-provider teams.


About the role


The Controllership Analyst completes and supports the accurate, timely and controlled delivery of close, accounting and reporting activities within defined scope as part of a team supporting the broader ST&S organization. The role prepares and reviews financial outputs, investigates movements and exceptions, operates financial controls and supports resolution of accounting, data and process issues, with opportunities to work across businesses and portfolios. It works with the Controllership Lead and specialist teams to apply accounting requirements consistently, support approved improvements in execution and raise matters requiring broader prioritization, interpretation or decision-making.


In this role You will


  • Complete monthly, quarterly and annual close activities, preparing accurate and timely financial results, reconciliations, journals and reporting within agreed deadlines.
  • Perform and support controllership activities for the assigned scope, which may include due diligence, management-to-accounting alignment, derivative and valuation accounting, intercompany matters, statutory reporting support and investigation of material movements.
  • Operate and evidence assigned financial controls, identify control gaps or failures, support remediation and raise material risks or issues promptly.
  • Support the accounting implementation of new business activity and business change within defined scope by documenting requirements, completing analysis and testing, and embedding approved process, data and control changes.
  • Investigate accounting, data and process issues, identify root causes, support resolution across teams and provide clear explanations of impacts and required actions, raising items requiring broader decisions or specialist judgement.
  • Contribute to standardisation and continuous improvement by maintaining process documentation, reducing manual activity, improving data quality and supporting automation and technology changes.

What You will need to be successful


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in accounting, finance or a related rigor.
  • Proven experience in accounting, reporting, financial control or controllership, including period-end close, reconciliations, controls and investigation of financial or data issues.
  • Professional accounting qualification preferred or in progress
  • Strong practical knowledge of financial accounting, period-end close and financial reporting.
  • Good understanding of commodity trading and supply businesses, including how trading activities, contracts, systems and market data impact financial results.
  • Experience with accounting for physical and/or financial commodity activities, including valuation and derivative accounting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate financial movements, exceptions and control issues and identify root causes.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across Finance, Risk, technical accounting, Controllership and external audit teams.
