Copywriter (Philippines, Remote)

Setsail Marketing

Is this job info correct?

Remote (Philippines) · Full-time · ~Half your day overlapping PST business hours

You can write like a human, in anyone’s voice, on any channel, and you can prove it. That’s the whole job. Keep reading if that sounds like you. Close the tab if it doesn’t.

About Us

Setsail Interactive is a B-Corp certified, full-service marketing agency based in Vancouver, Canada. We run the whole stack for our clients: paid ads, SEO and content, websites, social, email marketing, and cold outbound. Our clients span industries: trades and home services, professional services, medical and dental, manufacturing, coaching, and more.

For a writer, that variety is the appeal. You won’t write the same landing page fifty times. One day it’s a high-end dental clinic, the next it’s a roofing company, the next it’s a B2B manufacturer. Your words go out under real brands, to real audiences, and get measured against real numbers.

The Role

We’re hiring one very good writer who can be many voices.

You’ll write copy that ships under our clients’ brands and our own: social posts, landing pages, email campaigns, cold email, video scripts, and ads. You’ll get a different industry and a different voice most weeks, and you’ll nail each one.

This is not a “content” role. We don’t need words that fill space. We need copy that does a job: makes someone stop, read, feel something, and act. If you think the difference between those two things is obvious, we’re probably going to get along.

The bar is high. You’re writing for paying clients, not for practice. Every piece has to read like a sharp human wrote it, be specific instead of generic, and move the reader toward a decision.

What You’ll Write

  • Social media: hooks, captions, carousels, and short-form video scripts across LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Voice-matched to each brand.
  • Website copy: homepages, landing pages, and service pages that convert, not just decorate.
  • Email marketing: welcome flows, nurture sequences, newsletters, promos, and lifecycle campaigns.
  • Cold email: short, specific, human outbound that actually gets replies. For our own pipeline and our clients’.
  • Scripts: VSLs, paid ad scripts, and short video / Loom / talking-head scripts that hold attention from the first line.
  • Ad copy: Meta and Google ad variations, hooks, angles, and A/B test sets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand the client’s business, audience, offer, and competitors before you write a single word.
  • Match voice on demand. Become the brand, not you. Different tone, different reader, every time.
  • Write direct-response copy that’s judged on outcomes: replies, clicks, bookings, sales.
  • Turn briefs (and sometimes messy, half-formed inputs) into finished copy, fast and in volume, without the quality slipping.
  • Self-edit ruthlessly. Hand in clean, near-final drafts, not first drafts for someone else to fix.
  • Take feedback without ego, and apply it the first time.
  • Use AI as a tool, never a crutch. The writing still has to sound like a person. We can tell the difference. So can the reader.

Must Have

  • A portfolio that proves range. Different voices, different channels, real work. This matters more than your resume.
  • Native or near-native English. Idiomatic, natural, North-American fluent. This one is non-negotiable.
  • A direct-response instinct. You write to make someone do something, and you know why one word beats another.
  • Genuine versatility. You can write a luxury real-estate landing page and a blunt trades cold email in the same afternoon, and both land.
  • Speed and volume without a quality drop. Agencies move fast. You keep up and stay sharp.
  • Daily AI fluency (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) as a working partner. Be ready to walk us through a real workflow you’ve built.
  • Self-management. Highly organized, deadline-reliable, and low-maintenance over async.
  • Roughly half your workday overlapping Pacific (PST) business hours for collaboration.

Nice to Have

  • Agency experience: juggling several clients and brands at once.
  • A standout strength in one lane: email / direct response, scripts and VSLs, or paid social.
  • Experience writing for North American SMBs (trades, professional services, medical, dental).
  • A sense for format and design: comfortable in Canva, Docs, and ad previews so your copy arrives ready to use.
  • SEO copywriting basics.

Tools & Software

You’ll be comfortable working across a modern content stack, including tools like:

  • AI tools: Claude, ChatGPT, or similar, used daily as a working partner
  • Async collaboration: ClickUp, Slack, Loom, Google Docs, or similar
  • Marketing platforms (a plus): cold email (Instantly, Smartlead), email marketing (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Brevo), and ad platforms (Meta, Google Ads)

Compensation

USD $900-$2,000

How to Apply

We hire writers on their writing. So the application is mostly writing.

Send the following to [email protected] with the subject line: “I can be anyone’s voice,” along with your resume and LinkedIn profile.

  • Your portfolio. A link or attachment. Pick your three to five best, most varied pieces: different channels, different voices. Quality and range over quantity.
  • One line. Point us to your single favorite piece in the portfolio and tell us, in one sentence, why it works.
  • The writing test. Four short tasks. It should take under an hour. We’re not testing how much you can write. We’re testing your judgment on every line. Send your answers in one document, or in the body of your email.

Task 1. Cold email opener (2 sentences). Summit Roofing is a residential roofing company in Vancouver. Great work, nearly invisible online. A competitor across town, Apex Roofing, outranks them on Google and has ten times the reviews. Write the first 2 sentences of a cold email to Summit’s owner that would make him want to reply. No pitch, no link. Just earn the reply.

Task 2. Voice match (3 social captions). The client is Marisol Dental Studio, a boutique cosmetic dentistry practice in an upscale neighbourhood. Its clients are professionals aged 35 to 60 who want to look natural, not flashy. The brand is calm, minimalist, and premium, and it never discounts or hard-sells. Write 3 Instagram captions in one consistent voice: one introducing the new-patient experience, one for a teeth-whitening service, and one pure brand post that mentions no service at all.

Task 3. Landing page hero (conversion copy). Northline HVAC installs and services commercial heating and cooling for property managers and building owners. Their edge: fast response times and no surprise invoices. Write the hero section of their homepage: a headline, one subheadline, three short benefit bullets, and the text for the call-to-action button.

Task 4. Make it human (1 rewrite). Rewrite this so it sounds like a real person wrote it: “We are a full-service agency leveraging cutting-edge strategies to optimize your brand’s digital presence and drive robust, scalable growth across all channels.”

One rule for the whole test: if it reads like AI wrote it, you’re out. Show us the human.

We read every application that follows these instructions. We don’t read the ones that don’t.
