Position Summary
The Cost Accounting Manager leads the organization's manufacturing cost accounting function, providing strategic oversight of enterprise costing methodologies, inventory valuation, and profitability analysis across multiple facilities and product lines. This role serves as the primary subject matter expert for manufacturing cost accounting and is responsible for maintaining and governing subjective reserves such as Unrealized Profit in Inventory (UPI), ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and strong internal controls.
*** This role is a HYBRID position in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday @ Bridgestone HQ in Nashville, TN. ***
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee manufacturing cost accounting processes, methodologies, and cost models across multiple products and facilities.
- Drive cost transparency initiatives by improving visibility into product and manufacturing costs and identifying opportunities to enhance profitability.
- Analyze cost drivers, variances, inventory valuation, and profitability trends to provide actionable recommendations to leadership.
- Lead enterprise costing transformation and continuous improvement initiatives, including the transition from standard cost FIFO to moving average costing methodologies.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, audit requirements, and JSOX standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification
- 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including significant manufacturing cost accounting experience.
- Deep understanding of inventory accounting, standard costing, variance analysis, and manufacturing finance.
- Experience managing complex costing models across multiple products, business units, or manufacturing facilities.
- Strong knowledge of internal controls, financial reporting, and inventory valuation principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline.
- Experience in tire manufacturing or complex discrete manufacturing environments.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP) and enterprise costing platforms.
- Experience leading large-scale costing transformations or process improvement initiatives.
- Experience with moving average costing methodologies and inventory accounting modernization projects.
