Role Description This is a full-time Costs Draftsperson role based in Manchester, offered on a hybrid working model with some work from home flexibility. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing detailed and accurate bills of costs, schedules, and budgets for a range of litigation matters, including consumer and data-related claims. The role involves negotiating costs settlements with opposing parties, drafting points of dispute and replies, and supporting fee earners with costs strategy. The Costs Draftsperson will review case files, analyze time records and disbursements, and ensure compliance with relevant rules, guidance, and deadlines. Collaboration with solicitors, support staff, and external stakeholders will be essential to optimize recovery and reduce risk.

Qualifications
- Strong experience in costs drafting for litigation matters, including preparing bills of costs, costs budgets, and schedules. Experience in doing so on Housing Disrepair Matters is essential.
- Knowledge of civil procedure rules and costs-related practice directions, with the ability to apply them accurately in day-to-day work.
- Proficiency in negotiating costs, drafting points of dispute and replies, and handling detailed assessment proceedings.
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills, with attention to detail when reviewing files, time records, and disbursements.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including clear, concise preparation of costs documents and correspondence.
- Ability to manage a varied caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet strict court and client deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfort working in a hybrid setting, collaborating with colleagues in Manchester while working independently from home when required.
- Previous experience in consumer litigation, data protection, or similar areas is an advantage.
- Relevant legal or costs qualification (e.g., Costs Lawyer, legal costs training, or equivalent practical experience) is beneficial.
