The Role
At Sovos, we're building the future of global tax compliance through technology, and we need legal counsel to help us navigate the complexities of the Latam market. In this role, you'll manage commercial legal matters across the region with a strong focus on Mexico, supporting both local and global teams as we help thousands of customers solve their most critical tax challenges. You'll be a strategic partner to our business stakeholders, ensuring we move fast while managing risk thoughtfully.
More specifically, you will:
- Provide legal oversight and support for all customer contracting and commercial transactions within the Latam region, with a focus on Mexico, ensuring deals close effectively while minimizing legal risk.
- Draft and negotiate SaaS agreements, NDAs, DPAs, and partner agreements, leveraging AI tools to improve contract review efficiency and accuracy.
- Offer strategic legal advice on deal structuring, regulatory considerations, and risk management, collaborating closely with sales and other internal stakeholders.
- Oversee cross-border transactions, ensuring adherence to international and regional legal standards, and contribute to the development and implementation of company policies.
- Advise on employment law matters specific to Mexico, manage disputes, claims, and litigation within the Latam region, and work with outside counsel on select matters.
- Assist with M&A and post-acquisition integration activities in Latam, conducting legal research and analysis as needed.
What You Bring to Sovos
- Licensed to practice law in good standing in Mexico, with demonstrated experience providing commercial legal counsel, and duly licensed to practice law in good standing.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
- You can draft, negotiate, and close technology contracts independently, with a strong understanding of SaaS business models, ideally with a strong understanding of software and SaaS agreements.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal and presentation abilities, and comfort with AI-assisted workflows to streamline legal processes.
- High degree of self-awareness and commitment to personal development and learning, with a strong work ethic and collaborative mindset.
- Solid understanding of data privacy laws is a plus.
- Due to client contractual obligations, the successful candidate will be asked to clear a background check upon hire.
