Become a part of our caring community The Counsel provides a full range of legal advice and services. The Counsel work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. The Counsel is an attorney who independently manages affirmative litigation and recovery matters on behalf of the company. The Counsel will manage a portfolio of recovery cases — including subrogation, mass tort claims filings, restitution, small provider and pharmacy recoveries, product recalls, breach of contract, and fraud recoveries. The Counsel will manage outside counsel and vendor relationships and collaborate with internal business partners and law department colleagues. The Counsel will exercise independent judgment and take full ownership of legal matters. In this position, you must have the ability to perform sophisticated legal analysis, evaluate the financial viability of potential recovery actions, and clearly communicate with business partners and other stakeholders. Use your skills to make an impact Key Responsibilities Triage new recovery referrals and evaluate for legal merit, damages, collectability, and cost-benefit viability Independently manage recovery matters from evaluation through resolution, including demands, negotiation, litigation, arbitration, and settlement Handle a wide range of recovery types, including but not limited to subrogation, mass tort claims filings, product recall recoveries, restitution, small provider and pharmacy recoveries, breach of contract, and fraud recoveries Manage outside counsel on assigned matters, including strategy, work product review, budgets, and performance Partner with business leaders, law colleagues, investigators, and others to identify recovery-eligible matters Communicate case status, strategy, and outcomes to internal stakeholders Required Qualifications Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school Active and licensed membership in a state bar association At least 5 years of litigation experience, with meaningful experience managing cases from intake through resolution Ability to organize and manage a significant caseload with multiple simultaneous matters Strong skills in communicating complex legal issues to various stakeholders Ability to work independently under general supervision and in team settings Preferred Qualifications Experience with healthcare payor recoveries, Medicare Advantage, or managed care litigation Understanding of e-discovery and experience with large-scale discovery Work at Home Requirements: To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs. Humana reserves the right to require associates to upgrade their internet service if necessary. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information. Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required. Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Pay Range The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc. $138,900 - $191,000 per year This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
