Organization: The Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Position: Counsel to the Board Location: Harrisburg, PA Posting Date: 06/01/2026 Starting Salary Range: $104,651 – $125,767 Current Maximum Salary: $167,998 Remarks: Disciplinary Board employees are not state employees and therefore not participants in the State Employees’ Retirement System. Starting salary will vary depending upon the qualifications and employment history of the selected candidate. The Counsel to the Board serves as the principal legal advisor to the Disciplinary Board and works closely with Board members, committees, and staff to support the Board’s adjudicatory and rulemaking responsibilities and ensures that Board members receive accurate legal analysis and procedural support in carrying out their duties. Counsel to the Board is the direct supervisor of a law clerk or paralegal and/or Special Counsel, who provides legal guidance to the volunteer Hearing Committees. While based in the Board’s Harrisburg office, remote work is available for some of the position’s duties. Salary information Typical Duties: Guiding the work of the Rules Committee, including preparation of agenda items, legal support during the rule promulgation process, and drafting proposed rule amendments and related correspondence such as Notices of Proposed Rulemaking and communications to the Court. Drafting Board Reports and Opinions. Overseeing the role and function of Special Counsel and Hearing Committees. Preparing Private and Public Reprimands administered by Board Members. Preparing summaries of adjudications for the Board Chair, Vice-Chair, and non-lawyer members. Consulting with and providing legal advice to Board Members in preparation for oral arguments, case presentations at Board meetings, and hearings where members sit individually. Preparing written recommendations and guidance regarding Form DB-3 submissions and Joint Petitions for Discipline on Consent. Handling subpoena requests served on the Board and Executive Office. Conducting legal research as needed. Participating in Board educational programs and Hearing Committee training. Providing legal assistance and support to Board members as requested. Attending Board meetings and committee meetings. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an approved school of law, PLUS progressively responsible experience in professional legal work. Possession of a certificate of admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, or eligibility for such certification. Preferred Qualifications Experience in attorney professional responsibility or disciplinary systems. Experience supervising legal and support staff. Knowledge of Disciplinary Board policies and procedures. Knowledge of rules governing attorney conduct. Knowledge of state and federal laws, particularly in regard to disciplinary administration. Additional Requirements: Knowledge of principles, methods, materials, and practices of legal research. Knowledge of and skillful ability in Microsoft Office Suite and other basic or proprietary computer applications. Skill in analyzing and drafting legal documents, legal instruments, and other work product. Ability to express ideas effectively, appropriately, logically, and in an organized fashion, orally and in writing. Ability to work effectively with fellow employees. Ability to work without significant supervision.
