Reports to: Senior Credit Risk Manager

Salary: up to £48K DOE

Location: Manchester / Hybrid

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Credit Risk Analyst who can turn data into insight and insight into action. You’ll be at the heart of understanding how Leep’s debt portfolio is performing, exploring customer, billing, payment and collections data to spot emerging risks, understand what’s driving trends and identify where we can improve. Working collaboratively across Debt, Customer Services, Finance, Revenue Assurance and Data, you’ll help shape effective and proportionate collection journeys while supporting colleagues with clear, commercially focused insight. You’ll bring experience in credit risk or debt management, confidence using SQL or similar querying tools, and, importantly, the ability to make complex data meaningful for a wide range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse customer debt, billing, payment and collections data to identify trends, emerging risks and opportunities to improve performance.

  • Monitor debt ageing, cash collection, clearance, payment behaviour and customer movement through collection journeys.

  • Use SQL and data visualisation tools, including Power BI to extract, validate, analyse and present debt and collections performance data.

  • Produce clear management information and translate complex findings into practical recommendations for operational and senior stakeholders.

  • Support the design, implementation and ongoing review of collections and dunning journeys.

  • Analyse the performance of Debt Collection Agencies including placements, payments, returns and liquidation.

  • Utilise data to recommend and support change initiatives to drive improvements to debt collection and debt prevention processes and activities.

  • Own, maintain and progressively automate controlled procedures for producing operational datasets and third-party files, ensuring outputs are accurate, validated and delivered within agreed timeframes.

  • Identify data-quality issues, control weaknesses and customers who are not progressing through the expected debt process, recommending corrective action.

  • Work directly with the Senior Credit Risk Manager to influence collection strategy, debt performance and analytical decision making across the business.

Measures of Success

  • Accurate, timely and trusted debt analysis clearly explaining performance and emerging risks.

  • Actionable insight that supports improved cash collection, debt clearance and customer outcomes.

  • Reliable SQL queries and datasets with appropriate validation, documentation and controls.

  • Early identification and effective escalation of data, process and performance issues.

  • Evidence based improvements to collection journeys, customer segmentation and third-party strategies.

  • Clear communication of complex analysis to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Reduced reliance on manual analysis through repeatable, controlled and efficient reporting.

About You

  • Previous experience in credit risk, debt management, revenue assurance or a closely related analytical role.

  • Practical knowledge of debt and collections, including debt ageing, arrears, payment behaviour, payment arrangements and collection journeys.

  • Experience of using SQL, or a comparable data-querying language or analytical tool, to extract and analyse data.

  • Strong Excel and numerical skills, with experience of working with significant or complex datasets.

  • Ability to identify trends, anomalies, root causes and potential data-quality or reconciliation issues.

  • Ability to translate detailed analysis into clear conclusions and practical recommendations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to constructively challenge assumptions using evidence.

  • A collaborative, organised and detail-focused approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.

  • Experience within utilities or another regulated sector would be advantageous.
