Role Description

The Head of Engineering - CTO is a full-time, hybrid role based in Cairo, Egypt, with flexibility for partial work from home. This role oversees the end-to-end technical vision and execution of Nesba’s financial management and multi-broker investing platform, leading the engineering team in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, bank-grade, and secure software systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include architecting open-API integrations with brokerage partners, building behavioral tracking and financial health calculation engines, leading architecture and code reviews, and ensuring rigorous data protection standards. The Head of Engineering - CTO will collaborate closely with product, design, operations, and compliance to ship seamless spending, gamified learning, and multi-account investment features aligned with Egyptian Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) requirements.

Qualifications

• Track record of recruiting, mentoring, and retaining high-performing software engineering teams in high-growth or startup environments.
• 5+ years of proven experience defining technical direction, architecting scalable cloud infrastructure, and building distributed systems capable of handling high-volume financial data and real-time processing.
• Strong background in fintech, banking, wealthtech, or open-API integrations (e.g., Capital Markets applications, aggregation engines, multi-broker connectivity, or core banking APIs).
• Strong hands-on engineering background with modern tech stacks, microservices architecture, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), with deep expertise in CI/CD automation and automated testing.
• Hands-on experience implementing bank-grade security protocols, data encryption, risk management frameworks, and building compliant software within regulated financial environments (e.g., FRA or CBE frameworks).
• Proven ability to partner closely with Product, Compliance, Design, and Business teams to translate complex business and regulatory goals into clear technical roadmaps and reliable product releases.
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate technical tradeoffs, system architecture, and cybersecurity postures to both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, with comfort leading hybrid teams in a fast-paced Cairo startup environment.
