JOB SUMMARY The Administrative Assistant for the Cultural Programs is a developmental position responsible for providing administrative and project support to the Cultural Historian in the documentation, preservation, and promotion of Tribal history, culture, and traditional knowledge. This position is designed to build foundational skills in administrative operations while actively contributing to cultural preservation initiatives and archival documentation efforts. Under the direct supervision of the Cultural Historian, the incumbent assists with organizing, maintaining, and supporting cultural records, oral histories, archival materials, and related documentation. This role provides hands-on experience in cultural resource support, historical research assistance, and Tribal knowledge preservation while developing professional administrative competencies in a cultural program environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Participate in a structured mentorship program focused on administrative support and cultural preservation practices. Provide administrative and clerical support to the Administration Department and Cultural Historian. Assist in the organization, documentation, and cataloging of cultural and historical materials, records, and archives. Support the preparation, transcription, and formatting of cultural documentation, oral histories, and historical records as directed. Maintain both electronic and physical filing systems for administrative and cultural records. Assist in scheduling interviews, cultural meetings, and community or historical documentation sessions. Help prepare materials, notes, and summaries for cultural research and preservation projects. Perform data entry and maintain accurate records in designated systems. Assist with scanning, digitization, and preservation of historical documents and records. Provide administrative and project support for cultural resource, archaeological, and anthropological activities, including assisting with the organization of field documentation, research materials, site records, and reports under the direction of the Cultural Historian. Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive cultural and Tribal information. Provide general administrative support including correspondence, filing, copying, and document preparation. Learn Tribal administrative procedures, cultural protocols, and records management standards. Receive coaching and feedback from both administrative leadership and Cultural Historian mentor(s). Participate in training related to records management, cultural preservation, and Tribal history documentation. Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental and cultural initiatives. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or GED required. One (1) year of clerical, office, or community support experience preferred. Strong interest in cultural preservation, Tribal history, or archival work strongly preferred. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, email, data entry). Must successfully pass all required criminal, character, and background checks. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Associate degree in Administration, Native American Studies, History, or related field. Experience working in Tribal government or cultural programs. Familiarity with archival, records, or documentation practices. Box 2226 Oakhurst, CA 93644 TRIBAL PREFERENCE STATEMENT: In accordance with applicable Tribal law and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians (PRCI) Administration provides employment preference to enrolled PRCI Tribal Members. To qualify, applicants must submit valid proof of enrollment. Tribal Members who meet the minimum qualifications will be given preference in hiring, promotion, transfer, and layoff decisions. During the interview process, PRCI Tribal Members will receive an additional 7.5 points (10% of the 75-point interview rubric). Non-PRCI Native American candidates will receive an additional 5 points (6.7% of the total points) in accordance with Indian Preference guidelines. INDIAN PREFERENCE STATEMENT: In compliance with 25 CFR Part 276 and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Sections 701(b) and 703(i), employment preference shall be given to qualified applicants who are enrolled members of the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians, and secondarily, to another qualified American Indian/Alaska Native Candidate.
