Your Role as Cyber Security Engineer

The Cyber Security Engineer plays a critical hands-on role in protecting and strengthening Wesley Mission Queensland's cyber security environment. Working within the Hybrid, Cloud & Security Team, this role takes technical ownership of enterprise security technologies and is responsible for their design, implementation, operation, optimisation and continual improvement across cloud, identity, endpoint, network, infrastructure and security monitoring environments.

Working closely with the Security Analyst and other technology teams, you will apply strong technical judgement and problem-solving skills to investigate security issues, implement effective controls and remediation, and continually improve WMQ's cyber security capability and resilience.

In this role you will also:

• Take technical ownership of assigned cyber security platforms, proactively maintaining, troubleshooting, optimising and improving their security and reliability.
• Design, implement and administer enterprise security technologies across cloud, endpoint, identity, infrastructure, network and security monitoring environments.
• Monitor, investigate and respond to security threats, alerts and cyber security incidents, performing root cause analysis and implementing preventative improvements.
• Perform vulnerability analysis and drive technical remediation and security hardening across endpoints, servers, cloud platforms and network infrastructure.
• Deliver cyber security projects, platform upgrades and technical improvements using structured testing, validation, change management and post-implementation verification.
• Research complex technical issues and vendor guidance, develop and validate solutions, and drive problems through to resolution.
• Work collaboratively with the Security Analyst and other technology teams to review security findings and provide the technical expertise required to implement and validate security improvements.
• Use scripting and automation to improve security operations, platform management and technical processes.
• Provide technical guidance and share cyber security knowledge with other members of the Innovation, Technology & Security Group.

What We’re Looking For

• Qualifications in Information Technology, Cyber Security or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience, with relevant security certifications highly regarded.
• Experience in a Cyber Security Engineer, Systems Engineer, Network Engineer or similar technical role within a complex enterprise environment.
• Strong hands-on experience implementing and supporting enterprise security technologies, including cloud security, EDR, SIEM, IAM, Microsoft 365/Azure, Intune and network security solutions.
• Proven capability in vulnerability management, security monitoring, incident investigation, security hardening and technical remediation across enterprise environments.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience troubleshooting complex issues, automating processes and delivering successful security outcomes.
