About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Cybersecurity Specialist to protect our healthcare organization's information systems, patient data, and critical infrastructure. This role is essential to maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations, safeguarding electronic health records (EHR), and defending against evolving cyber threats targeting the healthcare industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor networks, systems, and applications for security breaches, vulnerabilities, and suspicious activity
- Implement and maintain security measures to protect Protected Health Information (PHI) and Electronic Health Records (EHR)
- Conduct regular risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration testing across clinical and administrative systems
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, HITRUST, and other healthcare-specific regulatory frameworks
- Develop, update, and enforce security policies, procedures, and incident response plans
- Investigate security incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and coordinate remediation efforts
- Collaborate with IT, clinical, and compliance teams to secure medical devices and connected health technologies (IoMT)
- Manage identity and access controls, including role-based access for clinical staff
- Provide security awareness training to staff, including phishing simulations and best-practice education
- Stay current on emerging threats, ransomware trends, and healthcare-sector attack patterns
- Support audits and assessments conducted by regulators, auditors, or third-party partners
- Evaluate and recommend security tools, technologies, and vendor solutions
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of experience in cybersecurity, information security, or IT security roles
- Working knowledge of HIPAA Security Rule and healthcare compliance requirements
- Experience with security tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, endpoint detection and response (EDR), and firewalls
- Understanding of network security, encryption, and secure system architecture
- Familiarity with medical device security and IoMT (Internet of Medical Things) risks
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and incident-response skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certifications: CISSP, CompTIA Security+, CEH, CISM, HCISPP, or GIAC
- Experience with cloud security (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) in a healthcare setting
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) platforms (e.g., Epic, Cerner)
- Experience conducting HIPAA risk assessments or supporting HITRUST certification
- Knowledge of ransomware defense strategies and healthcare-specific threat intelligence
