Team/Department Overview: Business Analytics Team – Reporting to the Manager of Business Analytics.

Flock Freight is hiring a Data Analyst to help turn complex business questions into meaningful insights that improve decision-making across the organization. You’ll partner closely with teams across Sales, Account Management, Carrier Sales, and Operations to understand their challenges, identify opportunities, and deliver reporting and analysis that supports smarter, more effective business decisions.

This is a hands-on, business-facing analytics role with a strong emphasis on SQL, stakeholder collaboration, and practical problem-solving. You’ll build and maintain reporting models, develop dashboards, manage ad hoc analysis requests, and translate business processes into reliable, actionable data. You’ll work closely with experienced analysts and engineers while taking ownership of analytical work that directly supports the teams driving Flock’s business.

As you grow in the role, you’ll have opportunities to deepen your technical expertise, develop specialized business knowledge, and contribute to increasingly complex analytical projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with stakeholders across Sales, Account Management, Carrier Sales, and other business teams to understand their reporting needs, investigate challenges, and translate business questions into actionable analysis.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyze data from multiple sources, supporting accurate reporting and informed decision-making.
  • Build, maintain, and improve reporting models, dashboards, and analytical tools that provide visibility into business performance and operational workflows.
  • Own and prioritize incoming analytics requests, balancing immediate business needs with accuracy, efficiency, and longer-term analytical priorities.
  • Translate business processes and requirements into structured reporting logic that helps teams categorize information, monitor performance, and improve workflows.
  • Present findings and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, helping teams understand the data and make confident decisions.
  • Collaborate with analysts, engineers, and cross-functional partners to improve reporting consistency, data quality, and analytical processes.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline recurring reports, automate manual workflows, and make data more accessible and useful across the organization.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative, analytical, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Approximately 2–4 years of professional experience in data analytics, business analytics, or a related analytical role.
  • Strong SQL proficiency, including experience independently writing complex queries using joins, common table expressions (CTEs), window functions, and other advanced SQL techniques.
  • Experience building and maintaining dashboards, reporting models, and analytical solutions using tools such as Sigma, Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret business requirements, investigate data, and translate findings into practical recommendations.
  • Experience partnering directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, manage reporting requests, and communicate analytical findings.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Google Sheets, or similar spreadsheet tools for data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize competing requests, manage multiple deliverables, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to Have

  • Experience using Python for data manipulation, reporting automation, or workflow improvements.
  • Exposure to statistical analysis, data science libraries, or machine learning concepts.

What Sets You Up for Success

  • Enjoy solving practical business problems and using data to help teams make better decisions.
  • Take ownership of your work, from understanding the initial request to delivering accurate, actionable insights.
  • Are naturally curious, ask thoughtful questions, and look beyond the immediate request to understand the underlying business challenge.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and communicate confidently with colleagues across different functions and levels of technical expertise.
  • Can balance competing priorities, adapt to changing business needs, and deliver quality work without losing sight of the bigger picture.
  • Bring strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and a commitment to producing reliable analysis.
  • Are eager to expand your technical capabilities, develop deeper business knowledge, and grow alongside an experienced analytics team.

    Compensation

The expected range for this position is $75,000 - $105,000 per year. This reflects typical earning potential in this role based on market data and individual factors including skill sets, experience, and geographic location. In addition to salary, full-time employees are eligible for an equity package and competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Flock Freight. We target candidates local or willing to relocate to Flock Freight’s San Diego headquarters.
