Data and Serving Software Engineer

Camus Energy

Is this job info correct?

About Camus Energy Camus Energy builds software solutions that help new sources of electricity demand and supply connect to the grid faster—without sacrificing reliability. As electricity demand accelerates and clean energy scales, traditional processes for interconnection to the grid are becoming a bottleneck. Utilities and site developers face growing queues, multi-year wait times, and costly grid upgrades that slow progress for everyone. Camus enables flexible grid connections that allow new load and generation to connect sooner by planning for and operating within real system constraints. Our platform bridges the gap between grid operators and large load developers such as data centers, providing a view of time-varying grid capacity for any given new interconnection point. We combine high-reliability software experience from companies like Google and Meta with deep power systems expertise across the utility sector. If you’re excited to work at the intersection of infrastructure, software, and climate, we’d love to hear from you. Role Overview We're looking for a Data and Serving Software Engineer to build scalable, reliable components of our analytics and orchestration platform, living at the intersection of infrastructure and data quality. You'll work closely with forecasting, machine learning and power flow algorithm experts to design, build, deploy and maintain the systems behind those algorithms. You'll drive key design and implementation decisions that shape Camus' data layer, including buy-vs-build, ensuring the platform is performant and cost-effective, and balancing storage efficiency against fast access for common usage patterns. You'll build for reliability, smart fallbacks, and continuous evaluation of results quality as models are iteratively developed. You'll seek designs that stand the test of time as we accumulate historical data, yet are flexible enough to support a growing set of analytical products. Camus deals with real-world data from our utility customers and your sleeves will be rolled up as you work closely with that data and the processes by which we ingest and clean it, pass it through the analytic steps described above, and serve the results to our dashboards and to grid control interfaces. Our platform sits at the heart of how utilities and energy providers manage an increasingly complex grid. The data systems you build and operate need to be up to date, accurate and reliable — grid operators make real-time decisions based on the information we provide. We take that responsibility seriously, and we want someone whose maturity managing data systems is commensurate with that. What You'll Do Shape the future of our data layer - design and build backend storage mechanisms, services, APIs, and platform infrastructure that optimize for the challenging size, shape and access patterns of our data needs Deal with data throughout its life cycle, from its arrival from the utility, through ingestion, canonicalization, analysis and finally publishing of analytic results and quality assessment and feedback. Work with the Product team to deeply understand user needs, with the analytics experts to co-develop solutions, and with other infrastructure engineers to maintain a coherent platform over time. What you’ll bring Minimum 3 years of experience in a software engineering role with a strong infrastructure or platform focus Experience working with machine learning or forecasting models — training pipelines, inference systems, and iterative deployment Experience working with Python 3, Kubernetes and GCP (or comparable cloud) — you're comfortable owning production backend services and APIs end to end Considerable experience working with complex real world data and building solutions tailored to the problem A collaborative approach to design — you know how to build consensus across a team and respect others' perspectives Nice to have Experience with energy, utilities, or other regulated/critical infrastructure domains Familiarity with supporting machine learning, forecasting, or power flow / optimal power flow algorithms in production Experience with SQL, databases or data warehouses What We Offer Competitive base salary Comprehensive benefits, including FSA and 401k for full time employees Fully remote workplace with options for in office work in the Bay Area Flexible PTO, which we encourage you to use! A real impact on climate change - we’re building the world we want to live in and we want you to join us! The expected base salary for this role is $180,000 - $230,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
