Location: Remote within Canada
Work Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:15 AM–4:30 PM Alberta Time
Contract: Approx. 739.5 hours + potential extension up to 24 months

Role:
Seeking a Data Architect to lead enterprise data architecture and integration for the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS), integrating DRAS with Databricks Data Management Platform and Alberta Geospatial Platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define target-state data architecture and conceptual/logical/physical data models.
- Design Databricks lakehouse, Delta Lake, Spark/PySpark/SQL, Unity Catalog solutions.
- Architect ETL/ELT, REST APIs, event streaming, CDC, batch and real-time integrations.
- Design Azure data solutions using ADLS, Data Factory, Event Hubs, Key Vault.
- Lead data pipelines, interfaces, data contracts and API specifications.
- Integrate with ServiceNow and geospatial platforms.
- Establish data governance, metadata, lineage, classification, data quality and security.
- Conduct threat/risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Work with Enterprise Architecture, cybersecurity, GIS, developers, data engineers, BAs and Product Owners.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and translate architecture into user stories.
- Produce architecture diagrams, documentation and decision records; provide technical leadership and mentoring.
Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications
- University degree or college/bachelor-level education in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Geomatics, or a related field.
- 8+ years designing, planning, implementing, documenting, and supporting enterprise database/solution architectures in environments comparable in size and complexity to the Government of Alberta.
- 8+ years applying enterprise architecture principles, methodologies, standards, tools, policies, and processes.
- 8+ years working as a Data Architect in a large enterprise IT environment.
- 6+ years performing threat and risk assessments and presenting risk-mitigation recommendations to senior management.
- Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership, planning, estimating, and presentations.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, Spark/PySpark/SQL, and Unity Catalog.
- Strong data modelling experience across relational, dimensional, and lakehouse architectures.
- Enterprise integration experience with REST APIs, ETL/ELT, event streaming, and CDC.
- Experience with cloud data platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with ServiceNow integration.
- Experience with data governance, metadata, lineage, data quality, and data security.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Public-sector experience is strongly preferred, particularly government regulatory systems or programs.
- Experience with geospatial platforms and geospatial data concepts, formats, and standards.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- TOGAF certification.
- 5+ years designing and implementing enterprise architecture database plans/models aligned to business capabilities.
- 4+ years using architecture modelling tools such as PowerDesigner, ER/Studio, ERwin, BPwin, or Rational Rose.
- 4+ years project managing application development using Agile/Sprint methodologies.
- 5+ years with cloud computing or big-data platforms/infrastructure.
- 4+ years with enterprise BI/performance-management technologies such as Cognos, Microsoft SQL Server Services, Power BI, or MicroStrategy.
- 4+ years as a Data Architect designing and implementing enterprise database solutions.
- 5+ years developing SQL databases.
- 5+ years implementing SQL data warehouses.
- 5+ years querying data using Transact-SQL (T-SQL).
- 5+ years of prior Government of Alberta experience is considered a strong asset.
