Position Overview

Fathom Management is seeking a Data Architect/Program Lead to support the FBI in designing, implementing, and governing enterprise-scale data solutions. This role combines hands-on data architecture with technical leadership, with a particular emphasis on cloud-based data platforms, data mesh architecture, data governance, data products, and scalable ETL infrastructure.

The successful candidate will work across data domains and stakeholder groups to ensure data architecture supports analytics, self-service capabilities, data discoverability, and long-term organizational objectives.

This position is primarily remote, with periodic onsite requirements at the FBI CJIS facility in Clarksburg, WV for equipment pickup and in-person meetings as needed.

Current Technical Architecture Experience

Candidates should have recent hands-on experience with:

Enterprise data architecture
Data lakes and data warehouses
Data mesh architecture and decentralized data management
AWS cloud-based data platforms
ETL/ELT pipeline design and implementation
AWS S3, Redshift, Glue, Lake Formation, and Lambda
Data governance, access controls, privacy, lineage, and data quality
Data catalogs and data discoverability
Domain-specific data products
Schema design, data transformation, and storage architecture
Agile delivery using Scrum, Kanban, Jira, Confluence, and/or SAFe
Technical leadership and mentoring of data engineering teams

Required Qualifications

8+ years designing and implementing data architectures.
Experience with large-scale data environments, including data lakes, data warehouses, and/or data mesh frameworks.
5+ years working with cloud-based data platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud for data storage, processing, and analytics.
Hands-on experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT pipelines.
Experience with AWS data services, particularly S3, Redshift, Glue, Lake Formation, and Lambda.
Experience implementing or supporting data governance, including privacy, access controls, data lineage, data integrity, and discoverability.
Experience with data catalogs and governance tooling.
Experience designing or supporting domain-specific data products.
2+ years leading and mentoring data engineering teams.
Strong stakeholder communication and technical leadership skills.
Experience working in an Agile environment using Scrum, Kanban, Jira, Confluence, and/or SAFe.
Active Secret clearance or above.
Ability to work remotely and travel to the FBI CJIS facility in Clarksburg, WV when required.
U.S. Citizenship.

Education

Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.

Direct experience implementing data mesh architecture in an enterprise environment.
Experience establishing decentralized data ownership and domain-oriented data products.
Experience with AWS Lake Formation and enterprise data governance.
Experience automating data governance and catalog workflows.
Experience supporting self-service analytics environments.
Experience developing organizational training for data stewards and data users.
Federal or other regulated-environment experience.
Experience working in SAFe organizations.

Key Responsibilities

Participate in planning, definition, and high-level design of enterprise data solutions.
Evaluate architectural alternatives and emerging data technologies.
Design and maintain scalable cloud-based data infrastructure.
Design and implement ETL pipelines using AWS services including S3, Redshift, Glue, Lake Formation, and Lambda.
Collaborate with data domain teams to design and deploy domain-specific data products.
Establish and enforce data governance standards across organizational data assets.
Maintain data catalogs and governance tooling.
Automate governance workflows supporting data integrity and discoverability.
Lead implementation and ongoing support of data mesh architecture.
Ensure availability and reliability of Data Mesh software and supporting infrastructure.
Guide organizational adoption of data mesh principles.
Develop and deliver training for data stewards, users, and technical teams.
Align technical data architecture with business and analytics objectives.
Lead and mentor data engineering resources.
Participate in Agile ceremonies and delivery processes.
Provide team-specific technical training as needed.
