BUCHAREST OFFICEJob Description
The Data & BI Engineer designs, builds, and operates the data models, pipelines, and reporting layer that turn our Key Opinion Leader (KOL) / influencer marketing platform's operational data into trusted analytics. Working hands-on across Cloud Spanner (the platform's transactional database), BigQuery (analytical warehouse), and Looker (BI and dashboards), this role powers reporting across the end-to-end campaign lifecycle — partner discovery, contract automation, campaign execution, content performance, brand-safety, and adoption tracking. The role supports the Social Digital Products space.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, evolve, and optimize data models and schemas in Cloud Spanner — tables, primary keys that avoid hotspots, secondary indexes, and interleaved (parent-child) tables — and write efficient, parameterized DML and queries with sound read-only vs. read-write transaction handling
- Design, build, and operate GCP data pipelines that move and transform data from Cloud Spanner (OLTP) into the BigQuery analytics warehouse, using federated queries (EXTERNAL_QUERY), scheduled queries, and BigQuery Data Transfer Service
- Model the BigQuery warehouse across staging and curated layers, applying partitioning, clustering, and cost-aware design for performance and spend control
- Develop and maintain reporting views and analytical SQL (window functions, incremental logic, reconciliation) that feed dashboards and downstream consumers
- Develop and extend our Looker (LookML) semantic layer — models, views, explores, dashboards, and persistent derived tables (PDTs) — and build and maintain Looker data tests and custom visualizations
- Own data quality, freshness, and reconciliation across both Spanner and BigQuery: implement tests, monitoring, and alerting so metrics are accurate and trustworthy for leadership reporting
- Integrate data from social platforms, third-party influencer marketplaces, comment / brand-safety annotation jobs, and internal P&G systems into the warehouse
- Orchestrate pipelines and jobs with Cloud Workflows, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Scheduler; manage secrets with Secret Manager and logs with Cloud Logging
- Contribute to Terraform for Spanner instances/databases, BigQuery datasets, scheduled queries, connections, and IAM, supporting self-serve provisioning and policy guardrails
- Optimize query performance and cost across Spanner and BigQuery, and identify and implement reliability and cost-reduction opportunities across the data and BI layer
- Partner with analysts, product managers, and engineers to translate reporting requirements into well-modeled, reusable data products, and uphold data-modeling standards, documentation, and conventions (P&G fiscal calendar, sector/brand taxonomy)
- Apply security and governance best practices: parameterized queries, least-privilege IAM, row/column-level access where required, and no hardcoded secrets
Preferred Certifications (nice-to-have, not required)
- Professional Data Engineer – Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Associate Cloud Engineer – GCP
- Looker LookML Developer / Looker Business Analyst – Google Cloud
- HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field
- Experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, BI development, or a related field
- Strong SQL, with hands-on BigQuery experience (partitioning, clustering, window functions, scheduled queries, cost optimization)
- Hands-on experience with Cloud Spanner (or a comparable distributed/relational database): schema and data modeling, DDL/DML, primary-key and hotspot design, secondary indexes, interleaved tables, transactions, and query optimization
- Hands-on experience developing in Looker / LookML — models, views, explores, dashboards, and PDTs
- Experience building data pipelines on GCP (BigQuery, Cloud Workflows, Pub/Sub, Cloud Run, Cloud Scheduler, BigQuery Data Transfer Service), including federated queries between Spanner and BigQuery
- Proficiency with Python for data processing, automation, and pipeline tooling
- Experience with data modeling (dimensional / star-schema) and building curated, reusable data marts
- Familiarity with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code for data resources
- Understanding of data quality, testing, and observability practices
- Working knowledge of Git, CI/CD, and conventional commits
- Awareness of data security and governance (least-privilege IAM, parameterized queries, PII handling, HTTPS-only)
- Nice to have: custom Looker visualizations; Dataform or dbt; experience with marketing / campaign or social-media data
