Data Engineer (m/f/d) | Contract | 100% Remote, EU

Global pharmaceutical company | 6 months, starting October 2026 | Extension likely


A global research-led pharmaceutical company is expanding its Azure-based data platform and needs an experienced Data Engineer to design and deliver pipelines, models and orchestration across defined platform initiatives. The team is also actively adopting AI-assisted engineering, so you will help shape how those tools are used in day-to-day delivery.


The role

  • Design and implement data pipeline architectures and integration solutions
  • Build and optimise ETL/ELT processes covering ingestion, transformation and consumption
  • Deliver cloud data warehouse solutions aligned to project and business objectives
  • Develop conceptual, logical and physical data models using Star Schema and Data Vault
  • Implement workflow orchestration and automation with Apache Airflow and dbt
  • Write scalable, efficient Python and SQL
  • Provide architectural input on Azure data platform components
  • Work with business and technical stakeholders to gather requirements and validate deliverables
  • Advise on AI-powered engineering tools and data engineering best practice


What you bring

  • 5+ years as a Data Engineer or in a comparable role
  • Strong hands-on Python and SQL
  • Proven delivery with Apache Airflow and dbt
  • A solid track record designing and building ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Experience with Snowflake and/or Databricks
  • Strong data modelling, including Star Schema and Data Vault
  • Microsoft Azure and cloud data architecture experience
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development such as Claude Code, Codex or MCP
  • Clear communication and comfort working across cross-functional teams
  • Fluent written and spoken English

The details

  • Duration: 18 October 2026 to 17 April 2027, with a likely 3 to 6 month extension
  • Location: 100% remote from anywhere in the EU, no travel
  • Rate: competitive
  • Interview: a single 45 minute Teams interview with the team
