Data Engineer

Marcus Evans founded in 1983, is a global Business Intelligence and Event Marketing company seeking a highly capable Data Engineer to join our in-house technology team in India.

This is an internal, hands-on engineering role supporting the data platforms, integrations, and operational systems used across our international business. The role will focus on designing, building, and supporting modern cloud-based data solutions using Microsoft Azure technologies. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues and stakeholders across multiple regions to deliver scalable data platforms, integrations, and automation solutions.

Exposure to AI-enabled services is beneficial but is not a core requirement. This role is best suited to someone who enjoys solving complex data challenges, improving business-critical systems, and working as part of an in-house team with a global remit.

Working arrangements:

1. Employees based in or near Mumbai will work:

• 2 days per week in the office

• 3 days per week from home on a rota basis

2. Employees outside Mumbai may work remotely, with occasional office attendance when required

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory

• Develop and optimise SQL Server databases, stored procedures, queries, and performance tuning

• Build Python-based integrations, automation tools, and data processing solutions

• Work with REST APIs and cloud services to integrate internal and external systems

• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across data and application environments

• Collaborate with business and technical teams to gather requirements and deliver solutions

• Ensure data quality, reliability, performance, and security across platforms

• Produce technical documentation and support operational processes

• Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to ongoing platform improvements

• Where relevant, support the integration of Azure AI services, third-party AI APIs, or AI-enabled workflows

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant industry experience

• Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server

• Experience building pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF)

• Strong Python programming skills

• Experience integrating REST APIs and cloud-based services

• Good understanding of data integration and transformation concepts

• Experience troubleshooting and optimising data processes

• Familiarity with Azure cloud services and environments

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent English language communication skills are essential

• Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Comfortable participating in meetings with international teams

• Candidates should be comfortable working independently and contributing to technical discussions and solution design

• Self-motivated and proactive

• Strong attention to detail

• Ability to work independently and as part of an in-house international team

• Strong organisational and time management skills

• Eagerness to learn and adopt new technologies

Desirable Skills

• Experience with Azure Functions or serverless architecture

• Exposure to Azure AI services, AI APIs, prompt engineering, or LLM integrations

• Interest in developing AI-enabled workflows and automation solutions

• Knowledge of Power BI or data visualisation tools

• Experience with Git/version control systems

• Experience working in Agile environments

• Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
