About The Role
We're seeking a Data Engineer to support an enterprise client's upgrade of their existing WhereScape RED environment. This is a hands-on contract opportunity where you'll help move the platform onto new servers, with new repository databases stood up for each environment. The legacy platform is staying in place for now, and the datasets are largely in maintenance mode, so the focus is on a safe, well-controlled upgrade.
The client is also investing in Databricks as their new data platform, and that's where their future work sits. While Databricks isn't needed for this upgrade, this is a great way to get established with the client ahead of that work, especially if you have Databricks experience or are keen to build it.
Working alongside the existing data team, you'll play a key role in re-establishing the environment and promoting it cleanly across dev, test and prod.
What You'll Be Doing
Please note that only candidates who have the legal right to work in New Zealand will be considered for this role.

Working alongside the existing data team, you'll play a key role in re-establishing the environment and promoting it cleanly across dev, test and prod.
What You'll Be Doing
- Support the upgrade of the existing WhereScape RED environment to a new version on new servers
- Migrate repositories into newly built repository databases per environment
- Re-establish schedulers and jobs in the upgraded environment
- Configure and manage deployment applications
- Manage promotion of the upgraded environment across dev, test and prod
- Work closely with the current team to ensure a smooth handover and overlap
- Gain exposure to the client's broader data landscape as it transitions towards Databricks
- Strong commercial experience with WhereScape RED (priority)
- Previous experience delivering a WhereScape RED upgrade (ideal)
- Experience with repository migration, scheduler and job re-establishment, and deployment applications
- Experience promoting changes across multiple environments (dev, test, prod)
- Databricks experience highly regarded. Not required for this work, but it will set you apart for future opportunities with the client
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting while collaborating with a wider delivery team
- Contract through to December, with the possibility of extension
- Remote delivery, ideally Auckland or Wellington based
- The chance to work on an enterprise data platform during a key upgrade
- Strong potential for extension and further work for contractors with Databricks skills, as it's the client's strategic data platform going forward
Please note that only candidates who have the legal right to work in New Zealand will be considered for this role.
