Title: Data Engineer
Grade: HEO (Higher Executive Officer)
Total remuneration: £47,590 - £54,482
Pay Supplement: The base salary for this role is £41,026 - £46,968. This job qualifies for Digital, Data and Technology Annual Pay supplement of 16% which is included in the total remuneration above.
Pension: 28.97% (RoS contribution)
Annual leave: 38 days annual holiday, increasing to 42 days with length of service.
Duration: Permanent.
Working Pattern: 35 hours per week. We are a flexible employer and will consider a variety of working patterns on a case-by-case basis. For example, compressed hours, term-time working or part-time working.
Location: Hybrid working model. Contractual base either at Meadowbank House, Edinburgh (EH8 7AU), or St Vincent Plaza, Glasgow (G2 5LD).

The Role
An experienced data engineer is required to join the Data Engineering team, part of the wider Data & Analytics function at Registers of Scotland. The team is responsible for developing and maintaining the RoS data warehouse, building robust data pipelines, data transformation processes and bespoke data products to support the needs of our internal and external stakeholders and customers
On a typical day you will…
-Work independently and as part of a small Agile delivery team to deliver secure, robust, scalable and adaptable software solutions
-Collaborate with colleagues to deliver data integration, transformation and processing solutions through the full development lifecycle from inception to deployment
-Actively participate in team/agile events and knowledge sharing activities, contribute to improving team processes
-Collaborate closely with team members and stakeholders to ensure solutions meet user requirements
-Undertake data profiling and source system analysis across multiple subject areas
-Maintain and support existing systems and find, document and debug issues
-Create and maintain supporting technical and business documentation
-Ensure technical solutions comply with security, performance and operational standards
Key Responsibilities
Essential Criteria – Skills and Attributes for Success
Technical Experience: We will assess you against the following Technical skills during the application and assessment process:
-Extensive working knowledge of Python programming language
-Experience using SQL and relational databases
-Experience in developing and maintaining data integration and transformation solutions using cloud tools and technology
-Experience implementing automated testing across data pipelines, integrations and transformation processes
-Experience identifying, analysing and resolving data quality issues across complex datasets
-Understanding of different data integration design patterns
-Understanding of logical and physical data modelling and database design
-Experience using version control systems to drive feature control and CI/CD in an enterprise development community
-Experience of the software development lifecycle in an Agile delivery model
-Understanding of data governance principles and their application across the data lifecycle
-Experience of delivering working software
-Experience of supporting and maintaining existing systems

Stage one - Application Process

-You will be invited for complete a technical assessment as part of your application via Hackerrank software, this will take place on the 23rd of October and you will have 3 calendar days to complete it.

-We reserve the right to invite candidates to participate in a telephone interview prior to being further assessed.

Stage two – assessment
If successful at application stage, you will be invited to an in-person interview which will include the following:
-Behaviour based interview, we will assess all the advertised behaviours
-Technical case study, we will assess the Essential and Technical Experience
Behaviour based interview questions will be given to candidates 15 minutes before the start of the interview to allow candidates to prepare in advance.

DDaT supplement
This post is part of the Digital, Data and Technology profession (DDAT) and attracts a pay supplement. The DDaT allowance is applied to the role and not you as an individual. Therefore, in future, if you move to a role that does not attract this allowance, the allowance would be withdrawn. Similarly, if you move to a different role which attracts a DDaT allowance, the amount of that allowance would be driven by that role's Job Family alignment to the DDaT Pay Framework.
The allowance is based on market benchmarking data and will be reviewed biennially. Following such review, the allowance may be increased, decreased or withdrawn where salary benchmarking data indicates this is appropriate
