Join Us in Transforming Healthcare Education
At Joyce University, the work we do goes beyond technology—it helps move the University forward and supports our mission of preparing people to serve as competent professionals, advance their careers, and pursue lifelong learning.
We are seeking a Data Engineer to help build and strengthen the data foundation that supports decision-making across Joyce University. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain the data pipelines and data warehouse that bring information together from the University's core systems and make it accurate, secure, accessible, and ready for analysis.
You will work closely with teams across the University to understand their reporting and data needs and turn those needs into reliable, reusable data solutions. Your work will support everything from everyday operational decisions to strategic planning, compliance and regulatory reporting, accreditation, and institutional analytics.
This is an opportunity to play an important role in building a modern, trusted data environment at a growing university focused on healthcare education.
What You'll Do
Data pipelines and integration
- Design, build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines that load data from the SIS, LMS, CRM, and third-party sources.
- Build integrations through APIs, flat files and database connections, including scheduled and incremental loads.
- Monitor pipeline runs, set up alerting, and fix failures quickly with documented root-cause notes.
Data warehouse and modeling
- Design and maintain the University data warehouse using dimensional modeling (star schemas, conformed dimensions, slowly changing dimensions).
- Create curated, reusable datasets for key areas such as enrollment, retention, course success, financial aid and finance.
- Tune SQL Server performance through indexing, partitioning and query optimization.
Data quality, governance and security
- Build automated data-quality checks and reconcile warehouse figures against source systems.
- Apply role-based access, encryption and masking so data use complies with FERPA, GLBA and University policy.
Reporting and analytics support
- Deliver data sources and semantic models for Sigma and help report builders use them well.
- Supply accurate data for state and federal reporting (IPEDS), accreditation and internal dashboards.
- Translate stakeholder requests into clear requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria.
Planning and collaboration
- Evaluate current data systems and recommend improvements in architecture, tooling and process.
- Use version control (Git), code review and change management for all pipeline and database code.
- Share project status, risks and changes with stakeholders and leadership.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What We Offer
At Joyce, we believe great work starts with an environment where people feel trusted, supported, and connected to a meaningful purpose.
- Self-directed paid time off
- 12 paid holidays
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Employer-paid short-term and long-term disability coverage
- 401(k) retirement plan
- Professional development opportunities
- Continuing education opportunities
- A mission-driven environment focused on healthcare education and student success
- The flexibility to work fully remote or in a hybrid arrangement from our Draper, Utah campus
Requirements
What You'll Bring
We welcome candidates who bring a strong technical foundation, curiosity, and a commitment to building data solutions that are useful, reliable, and sustainable. You should be comfortable working independently while also partnering with technical and non-technical colleagues across the University.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, data science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years of experience building and supporting data pipelines or data warehouses in a production environment.
- Advanced SQL skills, including complex queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning, ideally in Snowflake.
- Hands-on experience with at least one ETL tool such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, dbt, or similar.
- Working knowledge of dimensional data modeling and data warehouse design.
- Experience with at least one scripting language, such as Python or PowerShell, for automation and data processing.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
