As Japan’s largest comprehensive financial group, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) invests hundreds of billions of yen annually in IT and modern technology.
We are seeking a Data Engineer / Data Architect to join our System Division and lead the modernization and architectural transformation of MUFG’s massive enterprise data assets.
You will be involved in the entire process — from strategic planning and requirements definition to data pipeline development, data governance, and large-scale platform modernization — connecting huge volumes of financial data to AI, BI, and business innovation.

Upon joining Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, you will be concurrently assigned to Mitsubishi UFJ Information Technology Co., Ltd., MUFG’s dedicated IT organization responsible for driving the group’s system strategy.
Mandatory RequirementsCandidates must satisfy all mandatory criteria to pass the initial screening.
1. Minimum Practical ExperienceCandidates must meet at least ONE of the following:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in Business Application Development
- Industry experience is not restricted.
OR
- 3+ years of experience in Project Management (PM) / Project Leadership (PL) for software or data development projects
- Industry experience is not restricted.
- Native-level or business-fluent Japanese in both verbal and written communication.
- Ability to conduct business discussions and negotiations with internal stakeholders in Japanese.
- Ability to prepare technical specifications and documentation in Japanese.
- Ability to communicate with and manage external vendors in Japanese.
- Proven employment continuity is required.
- Candidates with frequent job changes, consecutive short-term employment periods (e.g., less than 1–2 years per position), or unexplained recent career gaps may not pass the screening process.
- Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, or Ph.D. from a university.
- Mid-to-senior-level professionals.
- Typically 5–20+ years of professional experience.
- Generally suited to professionals in their late 20s to mid-40s career stage.

You will work closely with business planning units, system planners, and external technology partners, covering both upstream engineering and execution.
Data Pipeline Development- Design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines.
- Aggregate and process massive volumes of MUFG data.
- Support business intelligence and advanced AI model development.
- Plan, modernize, and manage central data platforms.
- Work with Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, and Data Marketplaces.
- Develop and implement data platform strategies.
- Establish enterprise data architecture standards.
- Maintain data quality and governance.
- Evaluate and implement advanced technologies, including Generative AI and cloud migration solutions.
- Lead development projects from planning through implementation.
- Manage projects ranging from small feature deployments to large-scale infrastructure modernization projects involving billions of yen.
You will work directly on system engineering and project leadership at the development frontlines.

Base salary × 12 months + annual bonus. Compensation is determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
