Data Engineer – Power BI & Dimensional Modelling (LATAM)

Location: Colombia, El Salvador, or Mexico – 100% Remote

Contract: 4 Months + Potential Extension

Hours: Full-Time – 37.5 Hours per Week

Role Overview

We are seeking three Data Engineers with strong Power BI, SQL, and dimensional data modelling experience to support a complex data and analytics initiative.

A key requirement for this role is genuine hands-on experience designing and building star-schema dimensional data models using the Kimball methodology. Candidates must have actually built these models—not simply worked with or supported existing dimensional models.

This role involves working with complex data and business requirements, so strong business analysis skills are also important. You will work directly with business stakeholders to understand data, clarify requirements, and translate business needs into effective data models and analytics solutions.

Strong written and spoken English is required, as the role will involve stakeholder interaction and potentially a significant volume of technical and business documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support data engineering and Power BI solutions
• Design and build dimensional data models and star schemas using Kimball methodology
• Develop and optimize complex SQL queries and data transformations
• Build and maintain data transformation models using dbt
• Analyze complex datasets to understand relationships, definitions, dependencies, and business rules
• Work directly with business stakeholders to gather and clarify requirements
• Translate business requirements into effective data models and analytics solutions
• Support data validation, accuracy, and consistency across analytics and reporting
• Produce clear and comprehensive technical, data, and business documentation
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Strong professional experience as a Data Engineer, with significant exposure to Power BI
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with complex datasets
• Strong hands-on dimensional data modelling experience
• Demonstrated experience designing and building star-schema data models using Kimball methodology – mandatory
• Good hands-on experience with dbt
• Strong business analysis and requirements-gathering skills
• Ability to communicate directly with business stakeholders and understand complex business processes and data
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong written and spoken English, including the ability to produce detailed documentation
• Must be located in Colombia, El Salvador, or Mexico
  
  

Key Requirement

Hands-on Kimball/star-schema development experience is essential. Candidates should be prepared to discuss dimensional models they have personally designed and built, including fact tables, dimension tables, relationships, and how business requirements were translated into the model.
