# Data Engineer

## About the Role

ERNI is looking for a Data Engineer to build the data foundations required for AI, analytics, and automated business processes. You will design and implement reliable data ingestion, transformation, integration, and delivery solutions for both structured and unstructured data, working with modern data platforms, databases, APIs, event streams, cloud storage, data warehouses, and lakehouses.

As part of ERNI's Data & AI team, you will work closely with AI/ML Engineers, Software Engineers, Architects, and Consultants. Beyond hands-on engineering, you will act as a technical partner for customers, supporting exploratory workshops, data use-case discovery, AI readiness initiatives, technical pre-sales, and the continued development of ERNI's Data & AI service portfolio.

## Key Responsibilities

* Design and implement robust data ingestion, transformation, integration, and delivery pipelines for AI, analytics, and automated business processes.

* Integrate structured and unstructured data from databases, APIs, documents, enterprise applications, event streams, and other relevant sources.

* Develop Data Products, datasets, feature pipelines, and retrieval-ready knowledge bases for machine learning and generative AI.

* Implement data quality checks, validation, observability, monitoring, and traceable processes for handling data errors.

* Process documents and perform metadata extraction, classification, data enrichment, and information retrieval.

* Implement requirements related to data security, access control, privacy, data lineage, metadata, and governance.

* Make data provenance, ownership, and responsibilities transparent.

* Collaborate with AI/ML Engineers on training and evaluation data, feature engineering, retrieval data, and test cases.

* Work with Software Engineers on APIs, services, deployment, and operations.

* Lead or support exploratory customer workshops focused on data products, AI readiness, and actionable implementation plans.

* Support technical pre-sales activities, including discovery sessions, solution workshops, effort estimates, proposals, and customer presentations.

* Contribute to the development and evolution of ERNI's Data & AI service portfolio.

## Required Qualifications

### Education

* Completed degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Engineering, or a comparable qualification.

### Experience

* Several years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Architecture, Analytics Engineering, Software Engineering, or a comparable discipline.

* Practical experience with data processing, orchestration, and integration frameworks.

* Experience building and operating productive data pipelines.

* Experience working with structured and unstructured data, including documents and knowledge sources.

* Experience preparing data for model training, evaluation, retrieval, and AI-supported business processes.

* Ability to translate business challenges into technical data solutions.

* Ability to clearly explain data quality, availability, ownership, security, governance, cost, and feasibility to different stakeholders.

* Strong workshop facilitation skills with technical decision-makers, business representatives, and other stakeholders.

* Innovative, entrepreneurial, and pragmatic approach.

* Very good German and English skills at **C1 level or higher**.

* Experience integrating cloud-based or locally operated AI services and models into data pipelines, platforms, or applications.
