Job Title
Data Product Owner – Tech4EngineeringJob Description
Turn engineering data into trusted products that help thousands of Rabobank colleagues make better decisions and deliver value faster.
Within Consumer Data, part of the Tech4Engineering Tribe, we create the trusted data and insight foundation behind a frictionless engineering experience. Our products bring together IT4IT data, context and insights so engineering teams can work with greater clarity, speed and confidence.
Our data products provide a critical foundation for use cases such as DORA and OCiR reporting, Nexa, the central place for IT, Engineering Insights and the Enterprise Repository. By delivering consistent, traceable and auditable information, we enable regulatory compliance, operational resilience and better engineering decisions across Rabobank.
You & your role
As Data Product Owner, you set the direction for IT4IT data products and turn real consumer and regulatory needs into a clear product vision, roadmap and backlog. You ensure that our products can be reused across engineering, risk and compliance use cases and provide a dependable source for regulatory reporting. You actively engage with engineering squads, product teams, architects, data specialists, report owners, risk and security professionals and other stakeholders to understand their challenges, discover opportunities and make transparent choices about where to invest.
This role is about bringing strong product thinking into a complex, data-driven environment. You do not need to be the deepest technical expert. Your strength lies in understanding users, connecting perspectives and translating complexity into products that are discoverable, trustworthy, reusable and easy to consume. Together with the TechLead and Solution Architect, you form the leadership triangle around the product: product direction is yours, technology is theirs, and together you create meaningful outcomes.
Facts & figures
- 36 or 40 hours per week
- You will operate across 2 squads, collaborating with a diverse mix of onsite and offshore colleagues.
- 9.5 million customers worldwide
Top 3 responsibilities
- Set the product direction. Define a clear vision and roadmap for your data product. You decide what deserves attention now and what can wait, balancing consumer value, strategic relevance, data quality, risk, compliance and delivery feasibility. You make goals, outcomes and trade-offs understandable for business and technology stakeholders.
- Create trusted data products. As Product Owner for two DevOps squads with onshore and offshore colleagues, you work with data engineers, analysts, architects and regulatory stakeholders to turn fragmented engineering data into products that are easy to find, understand, access and combine. Quality, lineage, traceability, security, ownership and lifecycle management are built in from the start. This makes our products a dependable foundation for DORA and OCiR reporting, Nexa, the central place for IT, Engineering Insights, the Enterprise Repository and other current and future use cases.
- Turn use into measurable value. Stay close to consumers, test assumptions and use feedback and data to improve the product. You enable use cases across engineering, operations, architecture, risk, compliance and reporting, while avoiding one-off solutions that limit reuse and scale.
You bring focus to the work by asking: what problem are we solving, for whom, what value will it create and how will we know it works? You balance today’s needs with a scalable future and are comfortable making well-founded decisions when not everything can be done at once.
Together we achieve more than alone
We believe in the power of differences. It is precisely by combining people's differences that we become an even better bank. We are curious about what you add to our team of Consumer Data.
‘At Area Consumer Data - Tribe Tech4Engineering, great outcomes are achieved together. By aligning on a shared ambition, combining our strengths, and taking ownership as a team, we often turn challenges into opportunities and ideas into meaningful results’.
Work on yourself and the world around you at the same time
For us, your development and that of society go hand in hand. That’s why we want to invest in you and work together for a better world. We summarise this in one sentence: ‘At Rabobank, you work on yourself and the world around you at the same time. You’ll see this reflected in your personal development budget, our hybrid working environment, and a healthy balance between work and home. You can work on banking services for our private and business customers, as well as societal issues such as food and energy transitions.
Why everyone is welcome at Rabobank
At Rabobank, we believe we become stronger through people who complement each other. By embracing our differences, we bring out the best in one another. We seek diversity in areas such as knowledge, skills, and experience, but also in gender, background, and culture. Across every department, we strive for variety and the freedom to be yourself – whoever you are. That’s what diversity and inclusion at Rabobank is all about.
You & your talent
- You are curious, structured and comfortable making decisions when interests differ. You know how to turn user and stakeholder needs into direction, priorities and outcomes, and you communicate those choices clearly.
- You have proven experience for at least for 7+ years as a Product Owner, Product Manager, Business Product Owner, Project Lead or in a comparable role. You bring strong product thinking, stakeholder management skills and experience working with DevOps squads. You can define consumer problems and desired outcomes, translate them into a workable backlog and prioritise across value, risk, compliance, data quality and delivery capacity.
- Experience with, or a strong interest in, data products, data management and engineering platforms is a plus. You do not need to know every technical detail, but you are motivated to understand the domain and keep developing your expertise.
- Experience with IT4IT data, data quality, data governance or data lifecycle management would be valuable. Familiarity with cloud data platforms, APIs, data modelling, analytics or reporting environments is also helpful, especially if you have worked in a regulated organisation or improved self-service and consumer journeys.
Apply
To ensure that we assess all candidates equally for suitability for this position, we do not require a mandatory cover letter. Instead, we ask all candidates the same three questions to see how your profile matches the role. Please pay sufficient attention to answering these questions and explaining your answers; together with your CV, these responses form the basis for our evaluation in this round. Submitting both a CV and answers to the three questions is the minimum requirement to be considered in the selection process. A cover letter is not mandatory but may be submitted optionally.
You may draw on your work experience, volunteer work, education, private life, and so on. Use a maximum of 200 words per question and provide no more than two examples. Below are the questions:
- What excites you about this role, why do you believe this is the right environment for you to make an impact, and what are the unique strengths or “superpowers” you would bring to the role?
- Give a concrete example of a situation where you had to prioritize between business value, technical feasibility, quality and/or risk & compliance, while it was not possible to address everything at once. What trade-off did you make, what did you consciously decide not to do, and what were the consequences of your decision?
- Describe a product or solution where different users or stakeholders had different needs. How did you identify the underlying problem, how did you avoid creating a one-off solution, and how did you measure whether the product actually delivered value?
Please submit these answers in the application section titled 'Add your cover letter (optional)' on the website portal.
