Data Quality Engineer

Permanent, Full-time

Hybrid - based from either our London or Bristol office, with office attendance required once a week and occasional travel between locations depending on business needs.

The Role

At Bupa Dental Care, we're strengthening how we manage, govern and trust our data. As a Data Quality Engineer, you'll play a key role in building the technical foundations that underpin effective data governance across the organisation.

Working within our Data Governance team, you'll design and develop automated data quality pipelines, controls and monitoring frameworks within Snowflake, helping to ensure data is accurate, reliable and trusted. You'll turn governance requirements into scalable technical solutions, proactively identifying and resolving data quality issues while working closely with colleagues across Data, Architecture and Engineering.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on data professional who enjoys combining data engineering expertise with a passion for improving data quality and governance.

What you'll be doing

  • Building and maintaining data quality pipelines and controls in Snowflake.
  • Developing automated monitoring, validation and alerting frameworks.
  • Supporting data lineage, metadata management and governance tooling.
  • Implementing governance controls around data access, classification and retention.
  • Working closely with Data Governance, Architecture and Engineering teams.
  • Driving continuous improvements to data quality, reliability and performance.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in a Data Engineer role, with exposure to data quality, governance or data management practices.
  • Strong hands-on Snowflake experience, including SQL optimisation and data pipeline development.
  • Experience building and orchestrating data pipelines using tools such as dbt, Airflow or similar.
  • Strong SQL skills and proficiency in Python or another data engineering language.
  • Experience implementing automated data quality checks, monitoring and validation frameworks.
  • Familiarity with version control and CI/CD practices (e.g. Git, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
  • Ability to translate business and governance requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.

Desirable

  • Experience with data catalogue, metadata management or data lineage tools such as Atlan or Purview.
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks and best practices.
  • Experience implementing data security controls, classification, masking or access management within Snowflake.
  • Experience working within a regulated environment.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Azure, AWS or Terraform.
