The opportunity

We are looking for a hands-on, business-driven Data Scientist to join our growing Data Science team! In the fast-paced world of food retail, millions of transactions and customer interactions happen every week. In this role, you won't just build models in isolation—you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of data science solutions that directly impact how customers shop, how we personalize offers, and how our stores operate.

If you love writing clean code in PySpark, orchestrating production pipelines in Databricks, and want to get your hands dirty with modern MLOps and GenAI applications, we want to hear from you!

What you will focus on

• Design, train, and evaluate machine learning models to solve core retail challenges (e.g., Next Best Action/recommendation engines, customer segmentation, churn prediction, and demand forecasting).
• Work daily within the Databricks Lakehouse ecosystem—writing scalable PySpark/Python code, managing compute clusters, optimizing Delta Lake tables, and scheduling multi-task Databricks Workflows/Jobs.
• Bridge the gap between experimentation and production. Package models and data pipelines using Databricks Asset Bundles (DABs) and deploy them reproducibly across environments using GitHub (CI/CD) and Terraform.
• Contribute to innovative internal and customer-facing AI initiatives, including conversational data applications, LLM integrations, and Vector Search.
• Partner closely with Data Engineers, BI Analysts, and commercial stakeholders to translate business problems into scalable mathematical and technical solutions.

Who we are looking for

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in a Data Scientist or ML Engineer role, ideally within retail, e-commerce, FMCG, or another high-volume transactional industry.
• Strong proficiency in Python, PySpark, and SQL for handling large-scale datasets.
• Proven hands-on experience working in Databricks—not just running notebooks, but configuring clusters, setting up automated Jobs/Workflows, and working with Delta Lake and MLflow.
• Solid working knowledge of Git/GitHub for collaborative development, version control, and CI/CD workflows.
• Strong foundation in classical Machine Learning algorithms (e.g., gradient boosting/LightGBM, classification, regression, clustering) and statistical evaluation metrics.
