Job Description
Would you like to work with large international data flows and contribute to the detection of money laundering and terrorist financing? Are you experienced with PySpark, Python and scalable data processing and comfortable writing production-ready code? Then this could be an interesting opportunity for you.
For Rabobank, we are looking for a Data Scientist / Data Engineer to work on the international data model used for transaction monitoring. You will process and connect large volumes of data from different parts of Rabobank and help ensure that this data can be used reliably and at scale.
The team
You will join a team consisting of 9 Data Scientists, 1 Scrum Master and 1 Product Owner. The team is responsible for the data model used for Rabobank's international clients.
You will also collaborate with data producers from across Rabobank and developers who create transaction monitoring logic. In total, you will work within an environment of approximately 180 colleagues.
Strong collaboration and communication are therefore important. You know how to work with different stakeholders, solve problems and critically reflect on your own approach.
Your role
As a Data Scientist / Data Engineer, you will develop and maintain the transaction monitoring data model used for Rabobank's international clients.
Using Python, PySpark, Databricks and Airflow, you will transform and process large data flows and write production-ready code. You will also work on improving scalability, help build a monorepository and support the onboarding of new regions to the data model.
This is not only a technical role. You will coordinate with data producers from different parts of Rabobank about data sources and data quality and work closely with developers who build transaction monitoring logic and depend on reliable data.
Your responsibilities include:
- Developing and improving the international transaction monitoring data model.
- Writing and optimising production-ready code for large-scale data processing.
- Building scalable data transformations using Python and PySpark.
- Working with Databricks and Airflow.
- Connecting data from different parts of Rabobank.
- Coordinating with data producers about data sources and data quality.
- Helping build a monorepository.
- Onboarding new regions to the data model.
- Working with developers responsible for transaction monitoring logic.
Requirements
What do you bring?
Must-haves
- At least 4 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience working as a Data Scientist or Data Engineer.
- Hands-on experience with PySpark.
- A master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Information Studies or a comparable STEM subject.
- Professional proficiency in English.
- Strong communication skills.
- A proactive way of working.
- The ability to solve problems and collaborate professionally with others.
- The ability to critically reflect on your own work and development
- You are currently living in the Netherlands.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working in an IT environment.
- Experience with Databricks.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure.
- Knowledge of medallion architecture.

Benefits
What we offer
- A contract until 1 September 2027, with the possibility of extension.
- A 36-hour working week.
- A gross monthly salary between €5,993.80 and €6,896.70, based on 36 hours per week and depending on your experience.
- Additional benefits including holiday allowance, a 13th-month payment and pension contribution.
- A hybrid working environment, with fixed office days in Utrecht on Monday and Thursday.
The team is currently based at Winthontlaan and is expected to return to Croeselaan in February.
