About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled AI Data Solutions Scientist to join USAA’s Technology organization. In this role, you will be an integral part of our innovative Data Science team, working collaboratively across functions with architecture, engineering, and product teams to transform operational processes and member experiences. Your primary focus will be on developing scalable, automated analytical solutions that leverage both structured and unstructured data. You will utilize advanced techniques such as simulation, optimization, machine learning, and cutting-edge AI technologies—including generative AI, large language models, and agent frameworks—to produce actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making. As a member of this dynamic team, you will help shape the future of AI modeling at USAA, contributing to projects that have a significant impact on our members and the organization as a whole. The role offers flexibility with a requirement to be in the office four days per week, and can be based in San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, or Phoenix, AZ. Please note that relocation assistance is not provided for this position.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent relevant experience (4+ years)
- 6+ years of experience in predictive analytics or data analysis, or an advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) with at least 4 years of relevant experience
- Proven experience in training and validating statistical, physical, machine learning, and advanced analytics models (4+ years)
- Extensive experience with Python for statistical analysis and AI/ML model development and deployment (4+ years)
- Strong skills in querying and preprocessing data from structured and unstructured databases using SQL, NoSQL, HQL, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to perform ad-hoc analytics and interpret statistical results for real-world applications
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and experience in statistical validation and documentation of models for risk management
- Expertise in classical supervised modeling techniques such as regression, support vector machines, decision trees, and ensemble models
- Experience with unsupervised learning methods like clustering algorithms (k-means, hierarchical, DBSCAN)
- Proficiency with large language models and agentic systems development using frameworks such as LangChain, VertexAI, MCP, or similar tools, including prompt engineering and multi-agent system development
- Experience with MLOps practices and deploying AI solutions in cloud environments like AWS or GCP
- Excellent communication skills for translating complex analytical results into business insights for non-technical stakeholders
- Proven mentoring abilities for junior data scientists and fostering a collaborative team environment
- Gather, interpret, and manipulate both structured and unstructured data to enable advanced analytical solutions
- Develop scalable, automated models using machine learning, simulation, and optimization techniques to generate business insights
- Select appropriate modeling techniques considering data limitations, application context, and business needs
- Develop, validate, and deploy models within the Model Development Control (MDC) and Model Risk Management (MRM) frameworks
- Document technical processes and models for knowledge sharing, risk management, and technical review purposes
- Assess business challenges to propose analytical projects that add measurable value
- Collaborate with business and analytics leaders to prioritize modeling efforts and research initiatives
- Build and maintain a library of reusable, high-quality algorithms and supporting code for transparency and efficiency
- Translate complex business questions into analytical tasks, execute analyses, and communicate results with actionable recommendations
- Manage project timelines, identify risks, and escalate issues to ensure successful implementation
- Establish best practices for deploying models in collaboration with Data Engineering and IT teams, ensuring compliance with model risk standards
- Stay current with emerging techniques and technologies in data science and AI, continuously enhancing skills and knowledge
- Mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of learning and innovation
