Data Specialist – Intermediate | Contract Opportunity | Dublin


Intellect is supporting a contractor with the recruitment of an Intermediate Data Specialist for a long-term hybrid opportunity in Dublin.

This role is suited to a Data Specialist with strong hands-on experience in Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE), Advanced PL/SQL and Python, with proven experience working across complex data platforms, ETL processes, technical documentation and knowledge transfer.


Contract Details

  • Role: Data Specialist – Intermediate
  • Location: Marlborough Street, Dublin 1.
  • Start Date: 11 January 2027
  • Contract Duration: 24 months
  • Extension: Up to 12 months
  • Maximum Extensions: 2
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid
  • Working Hours: 8 hours per day, Monday–Friday
  • On-site: Primarily remote, with occasional attendance required in Dublin, including potential team meetings
  • Expected Commitment: Approximately 220 days per year

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must meet all of the following requirements to be considered for the role:

  • 1. Relevant Experience4–6 years of substantial professional experience working as a Data Specialist or in a closely related specialist data/BI role.
  • Experience operating at Intermediate level, including the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Experience working on complex technical data projects within multidisciplinary teams.

2. Mandatory Technical Experience

  • Candidates must have hands-on professional experience with all three of the following:Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE)
  • Advanced PL/SQL
  • Python

These are mandatory requirements, not desirable skills.

3. Data & Technical Analysis

  • Candidates must demonstrate practical experience in:Analysing complex technical data platforms.
  • Identifying undocumented technical dependencies and configurations.
  • Identifying single points of failure and recommending appropriate mitigations.
  • Working with complex ETL processes and data transformations.
  • Understanding and documenting data lineage and technical dependencies.

4. Knowledge Transfer & Documentation

  • Candidates must have demonstrable experience producing and/or delivering technical knowledge-transfer material, including where applicable:Technical process runbooks.
  • Step-by-step operational guides.
  • System and process maps.
  • Technical knowledge-base or wiki content.
  • Recovery procedures.
  • Walkthroughs and training material.
  • Technical documentation supporting sustainable knowledge transfer.

5. Continuous Improvement

  • Candidates must demonstrate experience identifying opportunities to:Simplify complex technical processes or code.
  • Standardise technical processes.
  • Automate repetitive or high-risk activities.
  • Reduce reliance on individual technical specialists.
  • Identify recurring technical issues and process gaps.
  • 6. AvailabilityMust be available to commence on 11 January 2027.
  • 7. English LanguageMust be fluent in English.
  • The CV must confirm whether the candidate is a native English speaker.
  • Where the candidate is not a native English speaker, CEFR C2 Mastery/Proficiency or equivalent may be required.
  • The contracting authority may verify English proficiency during the assessment/presentation stage.


ROLE OVERVIEW

The Data Specialist will work across complex data platforms and technical processes, with a particular focus on identifying undocumented dependencies, understanding ETL and data transformations, improving operational knowledge and ensuring critical technical information is captured and transferred effectively.

A significant part of the role will involve converting complex technical knowledge into clear, practical and sustainable documentation that can be used by wider technical teams.

The successful candidate will also contribute to knowledge-transfer activities, mentoring, technical process improvement and reducing dependency on individual subject-matter experts.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyse complex data platforms and identify undocumented technical dependencies.
  • Identify complex technical configurations and processes.
  • Identify single points of failure and recommend appropriate mitigation.
  • Analyse complex ETL processes and data transformations.
  • Map data lineage and technical dependencies.
  • Develop business-critical technical process runbooks.
  • Produce step-by-step technical operational guides.
  • Create system and process maps.
  • Develop technical walkthroughs and training materials.
  • Produce and maintain team wiki and knowledge-base content.
  • Develop technical operational recovery procedures.
  • Support the production of incident reports and technical lessons learned.
  • Lead and support structured technical knowledge-transfer activities.
  • Mentor and support other team members.
  • Validate that knowledge has been successfully transferred and can be applied by the wider team.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify and standardise technical processes.
  • Automate repetitive or high-risk technical activities where appropriate.
  • Identify recurring problems, knowledge gaps and process improvements.
  • Help reduce dependency on individual technical specialists by creating sustainable organisational knowledge.


MANDATORY TECHNICAL SKILLS - The following technical skills are mandatory:

  • Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE)
  • Advanced PL/SQL
  • Python


Candidates must be able to demonstrate practical, professional experience with these technologies rather than simply listing them on their CV. Additional relevant experience includes:

REQUIRED PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Candidates should be able to demonstrate significant experience in the following four areas:

1. Technical Dependency & Risk Analysis

  • Experience identifying:Undocumented technical dependencies.
  • Complex configurations and processes.
  • Single points of failure.
  • Technical risks and appropriate mitigations.

2. ETL, Data Transformation & Documentation

  • Hands-on experience with:Complex ETL processes.
  • Data transformations.
  • Data lineage.
  • Converting technical processes into practical documentation.
  • Runbooks, checklists, wikis, knowledge bases and walkthroughs.

3. Knowledge Transfer

  • Experience:Leading or supporting structured technical knowledge-transfer activities.
  • Mentoring other team members.
  • Validating successful transfer of technical knowledge.
  • Identifying future training and knowledge gaps.
  • Promoting sustainable knowledge sharing across technical teams.

4. Continuous Improvement

  • Experience:Simplifying complex technical processes or code.
  • Standardising processes.
  • Automating repetitive or high-risk activities.
  • Reducing reliance on individual specialists.
  • Identifying recurring technical problems and process gaps.


Please note: OBIEE, Advanced PL/SQL and Python are mandatory requirements for this position. Candidates who do not demonstrate professional experience across all three areas are unlikely to meet the technical requirements of the role.
