Description
The agency may authorize the selected applicant to telecommute on a hybrid schedule. The agency may terminate
or modify the telecommuting arrangement at any time. Telework will not be permitted outside the state of
Kentucky.
The Kentucky Department of Education is a service agency of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and part of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. The department provides resources and guidance to Kentucky’s public schools and districts as they implement the state’s P-12 education requirements. The department also serves as the state liaison for federal education requirements and funding opportunities.
The department is led by an appointed commissioner of education, who is hired by and answers to the 11-member Kentucky Board of Education. Offices are administered by associate commissioners, and divisions within those offices are administered by division directors.
The department employs approximately 425 Frankfort-based workers; 175 employees in support of the Kentucky School for the Blind (Jefferson County) and Kentucky School for the Deaf (Boyle County); and about 518 employees at the 50 Area Technology Centers across the state.

Applicants currently under contract with a local school district are required to provide a written release from their superintendent prior to an offer of employment is given.
In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Teachers' Retirement System.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Administer and support enterprise data base management system environments. Define, create, maintain and monitor database related components for application systems.
- Design, code and test programs written in SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and/or other applications to maintain complex database systems for assessment and accountability.
- Research, design and create new database systems using SAS or other applications to integrate previously separated databases or files.
- Code and test programs to produce files and/or reports for various request from division and office staff, state agency personnel and other groups concerning assessment and accountability data.
- Develop and analyze technical reports based on information generated from assessment, accountability, and other sources of information within the Department of Education.
- Provide technical assistance to division and office staff in the design and modification of database systems.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree OR certification in an Information Technology (IT) related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Six years of professional experience in IT service desk analysis, desktop support, database analysis, application programming, systems analysis, server support, computer operating system management, or related field.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
Additional education in computer science, IT, or related field will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Two years of additional experience in IT service desk analysis, desktop support, database analysis, application programming, systems analysis, server support, computer operating system management, or related field will substitute for the required education.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
