The Department of Economic Security, Division of Technology Services (DTS), is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Database Architect. The Database Architect determines database structural requirements by analyzing client operations, applications, and programming while also reviewing objectives with clients, and evaluating current systems. This position identifies solutions by designing proposed systems solutions, defines database physical structures and functional capabilities, security, back-up, and recovery specifications.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based upon the department's needs and continual meetings of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

Essential Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Manage SQL Server databases. Configure and maintain database servers and processes. Monitor system's health and performance and provide operational support. Ensure high levels of performance, availability, sustainability, and security.
• Utilize Microsoft SQL Server for extraction and analysis of data from multiple sources with demonstrated ability to effectively decipher, analyze and report data. Develop reports and dashboards using data visualization tools. Work with large data sets to create data insights for business partners.
• Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes. Assist developers with query tuning and schema refinement. Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours when needed.
• Provide development and leadership in finding solutions to multiple, cross-disciplinary business intelligence, analytics, data visualization or data warehousing/data architecture projects. Collaborate directly with peers and business leaders to transform ideas into actions.
• Assist with preparation and automation of recurring / ad hoc reporting. May train, mentor, and coach other lead junior analysts.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
• Understand multiple programming languages, database, software frameworks, management systems, and development platforms
• Considerable working knowledge of various industry standards for data capture
• Agile development process, databases SQL queries, Oracle applications/design
• Familiar with No Code/Low Code development (Quick Base/Power Apps); data structures and algorithms
• Debugging knowledge source control, Cloud platforms
• Report development (Power BI), Telerik
• Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC); Microsoft Excel

Skill in:
• Senior level application development with Microsoft Visual Studio
• .NET Framework/Core, Angular/TypeScript, C#, data contracts and data serialization; LINQ;
• TFS/TFS (Team Foundation Server)
• Build, Git; Microsoft SQL database access methods; API (Application Programming
• Interface)
• Strong customer service and customer centric approach
• Effective written and oral communication
• Attention to detail
• Strong analytical skills


Ability to:

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• This position may require driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
• Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions
• All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify)
• Employee shall obtain and maintain a valid Level One fingerprint clearance card that meets DES requirements for a Level One card pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-1969.
• Bachelor’s degree plus 7 or more years of experience in database administration and analysis (or equivalent experience).

Retirement:

State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), the State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program after a 27-week waiting period. The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for life-long income upon retirement. You will also have the option to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation program to take advantage of tax-deferred retirement investments.
