Job Description:

We are seeking a Database Engineer to administer and engineer production and non-production database platforms that underpin FAA enterprise data, applications, portals, analytics, and reporting services. This role supports the FAA Chief Data Office (CDO) Enterprise Information & Data Integration Program and works with cross-functional technical and mission teams to deliver secure, reliable, and well-documented outcomes.

Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • This position is remote, candidate must reside in one of the following states: AL, AZ, DC, FL, GA, ID, MD, MS, NJ, NC, OK, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WV
  • Occasional travel may be required. Candidates should be able to attend meetings at FAA facilities and other locations throughout the Continental United States (CONUS) as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of demonstrable database administration and/or engineering experience in an enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform work closely related to the assigned tasks and work products.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work with sensitive, confidential, or regulated information and follow FAA and federal policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use FAA-issued accounts and Government-designated collaboration and task-tracking systems as required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FAA or federal database operations experience.
  • Experience supporting regulated, high-availability production environments.
  • Experience with cloud database modernization, NoSQL platforms, automation, and enterprise data warehouses.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer Oracle RAC and cloud-based PostgreSQL/Aurora database environments supporting mission-critical FAA workloads.
  • Maintain database availability, performance, capacity, schemas, access controls, backups, recovery, patching, upgrades, replication, and high-availability configurations.
  • Use RMAN and approved operational tooling to protect data, validate recoverability, and sustain production and non-production environments.
  • Monitor platform health, review logs and metrics, diagnose incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and tune SQL, storage, indexing, and database configurations.
  • Support EDR, ADX, FAA1, PURE, and EDP operations, release cycles, platform modernization, database migrations, and transitions from proprietary platforms to cloud and NoSQL/SQL architectures.
  • Maintain data dictionaries, technical documentation, SOPs, runbooks, architecture artifacts, schedules, and evidence supporting FAA security and privacy assessments.
  • Participate in vulnerability remediation, configuration reviews, annual assessments, and continuous-monitoring activities.
  • Coordinate with application developers, ETL engineers, platform engineers, security teams, and product owners to preserve data integrity and system interoperability.
