Job Description:

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Data Center Engineer to support Blizzard’s data center infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a jack-of-all-trades and adept at both systems and hardware. The applicant will assist in creating/maintaining tools used by the team and be an escalation point for other support teams when needed. This individual will also serve as a key resource on projects, working directly with Project Managers to implement data center technology solutions for Blizzard.


This role has been approved for fulltime remote.

Responsibilities

  • Problem and Incident management
  • Projects and initiatives within the team
  • Site Deployment: Receive hardware, install servers, cable neatly, ensure operational usage
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain power, cooling, and life safety systems that are critical to data centers
  • Move, Add, Change: Responsible for installing and configuring new IT hardware that lives in the data center or decommissioning equipment
  • Inventory: Document and diagram data center floor plan, rack layouts, network ports, and power usage, plus perform data center inventory and asset management using DCIM
  • Assist in design, documentation, configuration, integration, and installation of complex network infrastructure
  • Systems Administration: OS deployments, LDAP, puppet configurations, create and maintain scripts to automate work or monitor/alert on hardware issues
  • Systems Engineering: Assist with tool integration (e.g. JIRA, Slack, or other web API)
  • Break Fix on equipment as needed
  • Provide 24 X 7 on call support as part of a weekly on-call rotation
  • Research and development on groundbreaking new areas in automation and hardware

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in computer science or related field, or 4 years’ experience in Systems Engineering/DevOps related work
  • Experience working with HPE, Dell, and Cisco server equipment
  • Experience working with Unix/Linux systems
  • Ability to work with global cross functional teams
  • Ability to act quickly, competently, and confidently
  • Ability to use discretion when presented with sensitive information or confidential issues
  • Strong organizational skills and multi-tasking capabilities
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong emphasis for equipment and work safety
  • Highly motivated and self-driven, capable of working with little instruction to resolve demanding tasks
  • Passion for technology and gaming
  • Must be able and willing to lift 50 pounds

Pluses

  • Familiar with Data Center operations such as: Generators, PDU’s, UPS’s, CRAC units and Life Safety Systems
  • Experience with public and private cloud, including OpenStack, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience with network theory and protocols, e.g. TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, VLANs.
  • Familiarity with service configuration and deployment tools, such as Ansible, Git/Github, Jenkins, Puppet, or Saltstack
  • The ability to read/write code fluently in any of the following: Bash, C/C++, Java, or Python

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $38.08 - $70.44 Hourly. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed. While we strive to provide competitive offers to successful candidates, new hire compensation is negotiable.
