Overview
The Deputy Project Manager supports the Project Manager in the planning, coordination, and execution of complex VA initiatives supporting VistA transition and EHR modernization activities. The ideal candidate has experience supporting a federal civilian agency, preferably the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and is comfortable operating in a dynamic environment where priorities and client needs evolve. Success in this role requires strong problem-solving, thought leadership, rapid learning, collaboration, and the ability to translate strategic direction into actionable plans and results. This position is fully remote within the United States, with core business hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Eastern Time. Periodic weekend support is required during EHRM deployment and cutover events.
Responsibilities
• Support the Project Manager in managing day-to-day program execution, priorities, deliverables, and stakeholder commitments. • Coordinate activities across technical SMEs, Data Analysts, Technical Writers, project teams, government stakeholders, and partner organizations. • Translate client requirements and strategic direction into actionable plans, priorities, and measurable outcomes. • Monitor scope, schedule, risks, dependencies, issues, and resource requirements across multiple concurrent activities. • Identify emerging requirements, anticipate challenges, and develop practical solutions before they impact delivery. • Ensure team activities, accomplishments, risks, and emerging work are accurately tracked, documented, maintained, and communicated to leadership. • Support development of executive briefings, status reports, presentations, project plans, and other program deliverables. • Facilitate cross-functional reporting and meetings, drive action items to closure, and maintain accountability for commitments. • Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, and apply innovative approaches to program execution. • Serve as a trusted advisor and extension of project leadership, promoting collaboration, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business, or a related scientific or technical discipline.• Fifteen (15) or more years of work experience required.• Ten (10) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for the required degree.• Project Team oriented mindset with excellent written and oral communication skills with good decision-making, interpersonal skills.• Experience leading geographically dispersed teams in a remote environment.• Collaboration: Working closely with other teams, such as development, engineering, and project management, to support the delivery of solutions.• Ability to work independently and conduct research with minimal guidance and supervision• Experience in operating in an agile environment is desirable, but not required• Experience within a large Enterprise Health IT environment, specifically with VA
Preferred Experience
- 5 to 8 years of experience supporting enterprise level projects at the Department of Veteran Affairs
Clearance Required: Ability to obtain and maintain a Suitability/Public Trust clearance
