Destination Specialist

The Unbound Travel Group is a growing collective of specialist travel brands, including India Unbound, Sri Lanka Unbound, Remarkable East and Asia Unbound. Founded in 2007, we design private journeys and small group tours across Asia for well travelled guests seeking considered, experience-led travel.

We are seeking an experienced Destination Specialist to lead the design, delivery and execution of private, tailor-made journeys for Sri Lanka Unbound.

This is a key role within the business. You will take qualified leads from our Australia-based Sales Manager and turn them into detailed, well considered itineraries, managing each journey from initial design and costing through to booking and delivery. This includes working closely with local suppliers, managing reservations and confirmations and overseeing the operational details required to ensure each trip runs smoothly on the ground.

The successful candidate will possess exceptional knowledge of Sri Lanka and extensive experience within the travel industry, ideally with a Sri Lankan DMC, tour operator or travel agency. You will understand the needs and expectations of international travellers, with experience designing and operating holidays for Australian travellers particularly valuable.

You will report to the Product & Reservations Manager based in Australia and work closely with our sales, product and operations teams across Australia and Asia.

Salary

LKR 2M to 2.5M annual salary, depending on experience. Open to full-time or four-day-per-week arrangements.

Location & Remote Work

The successful candidate will complete an initial probation and training period of up to three months at our office in Nugegoda, Colombo. This period may be shortened depending on the candidate's experience, competency and readiness to work independently. Following successful completion of the training period, the role will transition to fully remote.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and cost tailor made itineraries based on detailed client briefs provided by the Australia-based Sales Manager
• Translate client requirements into well structured, experience led travel programmes that are practical, bookable and commercially viable
• Maintain strong, up to date knowledge of destinations, routing, logistics, travel times and seasonal considerations across the region
• Liaise directly with DMCs, hotels, guides and local suppliers to source availability, negotiate rates and confirm services
• Prepare detailed quotations and refine itineraries based on client feedback in a timely manner
• Manage bookings, confirmations and reservations in coordination with suppliers and internal teams
• Oversee pre-departure planning including documentation, logistics checks and final confirmations
• Act as the key operational contact for trips in progress, ensuring smooth delivery and resolving any issues as they arise
• Monitor service quality and client feedback, addressing any concerns and maintaining high standards across all journeys
• Support product development by identifying new routes, experiences and accommodation options in Sri Lanka
• Assist in building and refining itineraries for future use across UTG brands
• Provide on the ground insight and practical input to marketing content including websites, blogs and campaigns
• Participate in reconnaissance travel and agent familiarisation trips where required

About You

• Minimum 4 years experience in a similar role within the travel industry (travel design or tourism operations)
• Excellent working knowledge of Sri Lankan travel logistics and accommodation
• Proven experience designing tailor made itineraries and communicating with international travellers, ideally for Australians
• Excellent written and spoken English with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with Australian clients
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail across complex itineraries
• Commercially aware with the ability to balance client expectations with operational feasibility and margins
• Confident working remotely and independently within an international team environment

Use Of AI Tools

We recognise that AI tools form part of modern workflows and their responsible use is acceptable. However, this role requires strong original writing, editorial judgement and subject understanding. We are not looking for someone who relies on AI to generate full drafts or itineraries without critical review, rewriting and fact checking. All content must be accurate, original and clearly human in voice.
