DevOps Specialist


Position Overview

We are seeking experienced DevOps Specialists to support digital transformation, service innovation and modernization initiatives. The successful candidates will work as part of cross-functional product delivery and program teams responsible for designing, delivering and continuously improving digital services.

DevOps Specialists will focus on operational excellence, deployment automation, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, production support, monitoring and reliable delivery of digital solutions.

Position Details


Position: DevOps Specialist

Openings: 7

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Work Arrangement: Primarily remote; occasional attendance in Edmonton may be required, up to approximately 15%

Duration: October 19, 2026 – September 30, 2027

Hours: 36.25 hours per week / 7.25 hours per day

Work Eligibility: Services must be performed within Canada

Extension: Potential extension of up to 24 months

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement automation for application deployment, maintenance and operational activities.
  • Create scripts, tools and procedures that support reliable operations and limited-downtime deployments.
  • Manage production configuration, credentials and environments.
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Support database upgrades, migrations, backups and recovery processes.
  • Create reusable templates and patterns for application deployments and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Automate the creation and configuration of development and testing environments.
  • Develop monitoring, telemetry and observability solutions.
  • Support integration testing, security scanning, system testing, performance testing and load testing.
  • Support frequent and controlled delivery of digital solutions to end users.
  • Identify and eliminate manual operational processes through automation and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Collaborate with product owners, developers, designers, analysts and other technical professionals.
  • Contribute to multiple digital transformation projects based on project and business needs.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • At least 3 years of research, analysis and problem-solving experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience documenting technical issues, solutions and procedures.
  • At least 2 years of experience leveraging generative AI and agentic tooling for drafting, analysis, structured retrieval and workflow automation.
  • Experience with prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and critical evaluation of AI outputs.
  • At least 3 years of experience using SSH clients and Remote Desktop tools.
  • At least 3 years of experience with security fundamentals, including secrets management.
  • At least 3 years of experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • At least 4 years of experience using command-line interfaces.
  • At least 1 year of experience with networking tools and concepts such as DNS lookups, traceroute and load balancing.
  • At least 4 years of experience with scripting tools such as PowerShell.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as a DevOps Specialist supporting continuous delivery of custom-built solutions.
  • 2+ years of experience designing and deploying hybrid-cloud applications using Red Hat OpenShift.
  • 2+ years of experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
  • 3+ years of experience with VS Code or Visual Studio 2019 or later.
  • 3+ years of experience working with CI/CD pipelines in large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Experience with GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with cloud application deployment and production operations.
  • Experience with monitoring, telemetry and application observability.

Ideal Technical Background

Experience with several of the following technologies and practices is highly desirable:

Cloud: AWS, Azure, GCP

CI/CD: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab or equivalent

IaC: Terraform and other Infrastructure as Code tools

Containers/Platforms: Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes

Scripting: PowerShell, Bash or equivalent

Source Control: Git/GitHub

Operations: Production support, configuration management, deployment automation

Monitoring: Monitoring, telemetry, logging and observability

Security: Secrets management, security scanning and secure deployment practices

AI: Generative AI, RAG, agentic tooling, prompt design and AI workflow automation

Work Arrangement

The position is primarily remote. Occasional meetings or work sessions in Edmonton may be required with reasonable notice, up to approximately 15% of the engagement.

Candidates must be able to perform the work from within Canada.

Equipment

Resources working remotely are responsible for providing their own computer, software and standard home-office equipment required to perform the work.

Security Requirements

Candidates may be required to complete background and security screening appropriate to the assignment. Certain assignments may require enhanced or higher-level security clearances.

Training

Successful candidates may be required to complete mandatory training related to privacy, access to information, cybersecurity, information management and workplace conduct.

Relevant project dates should be clearly stated using MMM/YYYY – MMM/YYYY format.



Note: The DevOps Specialist must provide the Province with an Enhanced Security Clearance. A DevOps Specialist may be rejected if, in the opinion of the Province, the Enhanced Security Clearance or equivalent is unacceptable. The Province does not receive any information specific to the reason an Enhanced Security Clearance may be rejected. Participating law enforcement agencies only identify if an applicant’s clearance is not accepted.
